The dinners at Kampai are always a treat, but this summer when the deck opened upstairs, I enjoyed getting snacks and taking in the view from the roof with my favorite drink on the menu: the Open Sesame. I would love to know how they make it. —Quincy Marks, Jackson
Ingredients
- 2 ounces sesame-washed whiskey
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon simple syrup
- 1 orange slice, fresh or dehydrated
Instructions
- Kampai’s manager suggests you make a full batch of this drink, return it to the whiskey bottle and store it in the freezer as a “freezer door” cocktail.
- To make the whiskey, combine 1/2 cup of sesame oil with 1 bottle of Wyoming Whiskey’s small-batch whiskey. Shake and let the sesame oil infuse the whiskey for at least 1 hour before putting it in the freezer overnight. Strain off the solidified fat at the top.
- To make the cinnamon simple syrup, simmer 1 cup of simple syrup with 3 to 4 cinnamon sticks in a small saucepan over medium-low heat for 15 minutes. Let cool and strain off the cinnamon sticks.
- Add to a mixing glass with ice and stir to chill. Strain over a large cube and garnish with a fresh or dehydrated orange slice.
