Do you like your sandwiches warm and served on soft bread? Full Steams Subs should be your new best friend.
The new lunch spot, which opened at 180 north Center Street in May, steams the subs so they are warm, the cheese is melted and the bread is soft.
Owner John Long said he first got the idea to open Full Steam Subs while working in a successful sandwich shop in Alabama. Nobody in Jackson was steaming their sandwiches, which he says customers love. The whole sandwich is warmed so the bread is hot and the cheese is melted. Then, each sandwich is topped with freshly sliced veggies and toppings including my personal favorite, Wickles. (If you haven’t tried these “wickedly awesome” pickles, you need to).
In addition to the subs, Full Steam serves Chicago style hotdogs, salads and soups. Another throwback from his Alabama days, Long also put Doritos and cheese on the menu. “People from Auburn found out I was making these and came especially for them,” he says.
You can take one of the 12 subs available on the menu to go without being heated if you aren’t going to eat it right away. Long’s personal favorite is The Freight Train, served topped with roast beef, pastrami, ham and muenster cheese. Sandwiches can be ordered in whole or half sizes.
As for hotdogs, the Chicago style (pictured here) has been popular, and there are five variations.
Full Steam Subs is open every day from 11 to 7 p.m.
