Lift Offers Options for Allergies

liftburgerIn Jackson, half of your dining experience is the scenery. But the Tetons aren’t the only great view in town. Lift Bar and Grill, located at the base of Snow King Mountain Resort, is a great place just outside of the busy downtown area to relax and enjoy a close up of Snow King Mountain.

There is an abundance of outdoor seating, including an open patio, as well as covered seating on the roof. The inside of the restaurant has a retro/modern feel with a few chair lifts to go along with the name.

My first experience at Lift, when it first opened, was not too impressive for a diner with allergies. I was excited that gluten free beer was an option on the drink menu; however, I was not too thrilled to find that there were no other gluten free options. I asked my waiter if there were plans to eventually serve gluten free buns, and he told me “definitely not”.

I’m a big enough fan of hamburgers to order them without a bun, and continued to eat at Lift because of the great Happy Hour, and quiet mountainside dining just outside of town. I was pleasantly surprised on my last visit to see a note at the bottom of the menu “gluten free hamburger buns available”.

I eagerly ordered the Wyoming Whiskey burger — a hamburger with barbecue sauce, bacon, cheese and a side of fries. Delish! The burgers are big and juicy, and the bun was even bigger. I had to double-check with the waitress to make sure it was gluten free, because as many of you foodies with allergies know, gluten free bread is not always the most appetizing. It was so great to enjoy the scenery while eating a tasty burger with a fluffy gluten free bun.

Happy Hour is from 4 to 7 p.m. every day. They serve gluten free beer, New Planet, as well as many allergy friendly cocktails.

Gluten Free
There are not many appetizers that can be ordered without gluten. But they do offer salads and nachos. There are a few entree options, including ribs and steak, but I would highly recommend any of the hamburgers with a gluten free bun.

Dairy Free
Most of the menu items are dairy free. Those that are listed with cheese or milk can be modified.

Vegetarian
Lift offers a vegetarian pasta filled with many vegetables and topped with goat cheese as well as a three cheese quesadilla.

Nut Free
The only dishes served with nuts at Lift are a few of the salads; the strawberry salad has walnuts and the Thai salad has a peanut dressing.
