Cold Drink for a Hot Day

SOPA cocktails
In the last installment of recipes from our Palm Springs trip (featured in the latest issue of the magazine), we bring you one of the more unique cocktails we sipped. This comes from SO.PA, at  L’Horizon Resort. The desert-made cocktail would be just the thing to help beat this scorching heat.

With a Michelin starred executive chef and intimate outdoor dining, we were so drawn to this restaurant we ate there twice. We found their cocktails to be just as inventive as the food, and made sure to take this one home with us. Manager Michael Worth told us he’s always trying to develop new and different cocktails for the menu. What makes this one special is that it’s mixed with an LA-made spiced rum, but if you can’t get your hands on that, any good spiced rum will do.

Cara Rank

Also originally from the South, Cara Rank discovered cooking was a creative outlet that helped her relax after long days writing magazine and newspaper articles during the past eight years in Jackson. Really, she just missed Southern food. A lot. During a 12-year career as a journalist, Cara has won numerous awards for her work and has written about everything from rodeo queens to Dolly Parton tomatoes. She spends her weekends making jars of pickles and jam and amazing dinners for friends. She loves shishito peppers, Chicago-style hot dogs and elderflower-spiked cocktails.
