Teton Valley may sit just over the hill from Jackson, but it can be easy to overlook with all of the summertime buzz in town. With big views, easygoing charm, river access, mountain trails and a food scene worth planning a day around, the Idaho side of the Tetons deserves to be treated as a destination in its own right. Make the trip over the pass; come hungry, bring your river shoes and give yourself a full summer day to eat, wander, paddle and linger.
Start with Breakfast at Butter Café
Begin the morning at Butter Café, where breakfast feels both easygoing and elevated — the kind of place where coffee, pastries and a satisfying plate of something fresh and thoughtful can set the tone for the whole day. Settle in, fuel up and take your time.

The culinary minds behind Butter (also Streetfood at the Stagecoach), bring bold, international flavors to elevate comfort classics. We’re particularly obsessed with the smoky hibiscus chilaquiles: corn tortilla chips, hibiscus-chipotle salsa, two eggs, styled your way, refried beans, sour cream, queso fresco, cilantro and onion.
Stock Up at Food Shed Idaho
No foodie outing in Victor is complete without a stop at Food Shed Idaho for elevated pantry essentials, specialty goods and local provisions worth tucking into your bag for later. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to plan a picnic, upgrade your kitchen or bring home a taste of the area. Think quality ingredients, thoughtful sourcing and the quiet joy of finding something delicious you didn’t know you needed. Pro tip: Bring a cooler if you plan to acquire any meats or cheeses!
It’s one of the best shops in the area to grab gourmet bites that belong on any charcuterie or grazing board. Lately, we’re craving flavors like tinned octopus in olive oil from Portugal, authentic Italian Giardiniera and irresistible Roquefort Buttercrumb Buttons from England.

Take a Morning Hike in Darby Canyon
With breakfast handled and a few provisions secured, head toward Darby Canyon for a short hike and a dose of classic Teton Valley scenery. With canyon walls, mountain views, wildflowers and fresh air doing their best to show off, it’s an ideal way to stretch your legs before the day warms up. Go as far as your schedule, energy and appetite allow — the goal is not to conquer the mountain, but to earn lunch in the prettiest possible way.
Grab Lunch at Figgie’s Deli
As the day warms up, head to Figgie’s Deli for a lunch that’s casual, satisfying and exactly right for a summer afternoon. Relax and eat there, or get your goodies to go and enjoy picnic-style. Figgie’s boasts an impressive lineup of signature sandwiches — enduring favorites that have cultivated robust followings. But the menu always includes some specialty sandos that rotate every month. They’re creative, unexpected, and always delicious.
We’re pretty big fans of the Brie Beast: a toasted sandwich with brie, roast beef, caramelized onions, sun-dried tomato aioli and arugula on 460 ciabatta. Rich, complex, bright… it hits every note.

Spend the Afternoon on the Teton River
When the heat of the day settles into the valley, make your way to the Teton River. Paddleboard, kayak, canoe, drift boat — whatever you’ve got, or whatever you can rent in town. The point is to get on the water, slow down and let the river carry the afternoon.
With the Tetons rising in the distance and the valley unfolding around you, a float on the Teton is one of the best ways to enjoy a summer day here. Pack water, sunscreen, snacks (that you cleverly acquired from Food Shed) and a little patience for the takeout logistics. The river has a way of making everyone happier, but only if someone remembers the shuttle.
Dinner at Teton Thai
End the day with dinner at Teton Thai, a Teton Valley favorite where bold flavors, mountain-town energy, and a lively dining room make for the perfect summer evening. After a day spent hiking, shopping, paddling, snacking and soaking up the valley, settle in for curries, noodles, fresh herbs, bright spice and the kind of meal that feels both comforting and celebratory. It’s an ideal final stop: relaxed enough for a post-adventure appetite, flavorful enough to feel like an occasion, and beloved enough to remind you why food is such a good way to experience a place.

Their classic noodle dishes are irresistible for good reason. We’ll happily tuck into pad kee mao, pad see ew or pad Thai any day. Sip on a house-brewed beer or sake to complete the experience.
Savor the Season
A perfect summer day in Teton Valley does not need to be complicated. Start with something good to eat, stock up on something special, get outside, follow the water, linger over dinner and let the mountains do what they do best. Around here, the best days are often the simple ones — especially when they come with breakfast, river time and a very good meal at the end.
