This Thursday, Central Wyoming College pairs culinary writing with a special tasting event.
Central Wyoming College is partnering with Jackson Hole Writers, The Anvil Hotel and Glorietta Trattoria to offer a unique off-season opportunity that blends culinary arts and creative writing. The collaboration is designed to help participants build confidence and experience in culinary writing, culminating in a food-focused tasting event and open mic at the Cache House Hostel.
An educational culinary writing session will take place Thursday, April 9, from 8:30 to 9:50 a.m. during a regular meeting of Central Wyoming College’s Composition 1020 course. Hospitality and culinary students will also attend. Community members are invited to participate alongside students; registration is required. This workshop will take place at the Jackson campus in the Center for the Arts (room 118).

“One of the things that makes this partnership really special is the way it puts Central Wyoming College students at the heart of a community celebration of good writing and great food,” said Matt Daly, executive director of Jackson Hole Writers. The class will be led by chef Jason Mitchel and food blogger Reed Mattison, who will guide participants through different approaches to writing about food — from both the kitchen and the table.
The experience continues Friday, April 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. with a tasting event and open mic at the Cache House Hostel at The Anvil Hotel. Students, class participants and community members are invited to enjoy an evening of curated bites and beverages from the Glorietta Trattoria kitchen.
General Manager Tyler Gomez and Executive Chef Remle Colestock — recently nominated for a James Beard Award for best chef — will lead the culinary experience.

“At the heart of true hospitality is authentic shared experience and connection,” said Justin Stone, director of hospitality and culinary programs at Central Wyoming College. “Creating this opportunity for our students to participate in such an event is essential to their development as future providers of excellent hospitality and curators of community.”
Throughout the evening, attendees will be encouraged to engage creatively through writing prompts and guidance from Mitchel and Mattison. The event will conclude with a lively open mic, where participants can share their original work or read excerpts from favorite pieces of food writing.
“We want to showcase how fun writing can be and how it can enrich all kinds of experiences,” Daly said. “Enjoying delicious food is a pleasure, and being able to express that experience through thoughtful language builds meaningful connections. This partnership reflects a shared vision of creating experiences that bring people together and celebrate the remarkable place we call home.
Tickets are $60.00 and registration is facilitated through the JH Writers workshops website.
