Twelve Wines Perfect for Your Turkey Dinner

With Thanksgiving around the corner, we turned to Fine Dining’s Wine and Beverage Director, Neil Loomis, to find out what he thinks pairs best with the meal. He pulled a list together that offers something to fit every taste, and here is what he has to say about his picks.

First, the white/roses:Thanksgiving Wine

2015 Loimer Gruner Veltliner, Kamptal: aromatic and lively, with apple and citrus components, refreshes the palate with every taste. $20

2015 Chavy Chouet Bourgogne Blanc: chardonnay from the mother land, its rich and focused with lemon, apple and pear. The single best white wine pairing for all Thanksgiving fare. $25

2015 Le Cengle Rose, Cotes de Provence: passion fruit and currant aromas with a fresh strawberry palate, tasty with root vegetables. $16

2015 Malivoire Rose, Beamsville Bench, Canada: elegant with lasting cherry finish. Sweet potato casserole anyone? $31

2015 Sarocco Moscato d’ Asti: light, with a slight frizzante. A touch of sweetness makes this a fun aperitif or easy dessert wine after a feast culminating with  a selection of pies. $20

And for the reds:

Thanksgiving wines

2013 Domaine de la Chapelle des Bois, Fleurie: Thanksgiving tradition of delicious Gamay from a unique Cru is always a winner. $26

2011 Fouassier Sancerre Rouge: great alternative to a red Burgundy. Subtle fruit with leather and earthiness. Brussel sprouts with pancetta are a fun match. $32

2014 Moniker Pinot Noir, Mendocino: intense berry, rhubarb and potpourri. Its juiciness pairs with any sauces prepared for the feast. $25

2014 Don Cosimo Nero d’ Avola, Sicily: jammy raspberry with dry graphite finish is great with the cranberry sauce. $18

2013 Clos du Caillou, Chateauneuf du Pape: elegant and balanced wine that pairs with the whole meal start to finish. $60

2013 Davis Family Zinfandel, Russian River Valley: big, bright, ripe fruit. American classic varietal for a classic American holiday. $39

2014 Cesari Valpolicella Ripasso: full bodied baby Amarone with ripe cherries and a smooth persistent finish. Crispy skinned turkey leg with Ripasso. Yum. $25
