Retake Your Turkey Tummy: 7 Healthy Dishes to Jumpstart Your Holidays

Depending on when your Thanksgiving occurred Thursday, there was probably a point around 8 or 9 p.m. when the food hangover set in. Amplified by a few glasses of wine, a comfy couch, and some football on in the background, chances are you might have slipped into a full blown post Thanksgiving food coma. While there is no shame in fully partaking in holidays based around mass amounts of food, there is always a point in which week-old leftovers look extremely unappealing and we are forced back to healthier alternatives. Luckily, there are plenty of places that offer healthy options to enjoy while going out on the town. Here are some of our favorite dishes that will keep you feeling good through the holidays.

Choose from a variety of juice options at Healthy Being

Choose from a variety of juice options at Healthy Being

Healthy Being Juicery’s Fresh Pressed Juices: We could easily select their whole menu for healthy eats, including their toasts, pre-made options, or many smoothies. Their juices, however, are a great first step in a little post feast detox. They offer options ranging from a one day to a full five day package. Stop by the store and create a juice plan that best suits your needs and taste.

Picnic’s Spinach Salad: If you are looking for a salad that eats like a meal, all of Picnic’s options are great choices. The spinach salad though is a favorite, loaded with antioxidant rich spinach and protein packed chicken and chickpeas. It is perfect for a power lunch.

King Sushi’s Poke Don: This tasty option is full of flavor. Tuna poke is served on top of a rice bowl garnished with avocado and jalapeños. Their sake don is another great dish, served with salmon and a sesame teriyaki glaze instead. Few things are as packed with lean protein as fish, stop by for their happy hour from 4:30 to 6 p.m. nightly for great deals on sushi and drinks.

The Libertine Burger in all its glory

The Libertine Burger in all its glory

Liberty Burger’s Libertine Burger: Few times have I admitted to liking a burger that was made out of something other than ground beef more than the original, this, however, is one of those burgers. Liberty Burger makes their turkey patties in house and tops them with gourmet ingredients like avocado, marinated cucumbers, and arugula.

Jackson Whole Grocer’s Salad Bar: Not all salads are built the same, and the same goes for salad bars. The Whole Grocer has one of the best, with just about all the lettuces, veggies, and proteins that you could want in a hearty meal. Don’t forget their prepared cold items like pasta salad or marinated vegetables are the same price per pound, so feel free to load up you plate (or takeaway box) with a little variety. If you are feeling thirsty, they also have kombucha on tap to support a healthy gut.

Q Roadhouse’s Bahn Mi Bowl: Any fan of this Vietnamese staple will love Q Roadhouses’s deconstructed version. Pickled vegetables offset the savory pork belly, all served over a bowl of jasmine rice and garnished with fresh herbs. Don’t forget to bring your growler there to get filled up straight from the source (a few liquid carbs are always good in moderation).

Snake River Brewing’s Farro Salad: Breweries don’t have to be all about brew food. The farro salad at SRB is a great mix of vegetables and grains that create a satisfying and healthy meal. Organic farro is mixed with edamame, avocado, toasted almonds, fresh corn and other veggies with a mint and cilantro dressing to create a noteworthy dish.

Honorable mention…. Lotus’s Full menu: We could put Lotus’s full menu on our healthy eats guide, unfortunately you will have to wait to get your fill of their tasty and healthy option until the reopen in their new location on Cache. Keep up to date on their new digs via their website or Facebook page.
