Grilled Cod From The Restaurant at Cakebread Ranch

This looks like it’s going to be something special. I caught wind a few months back that a new restaurant was opening at The Cakebread Ranch in Thayne. I was familiar with the ranch from their presence at the Saturday Farmers Market.

In years past they have always had things that, as a chef, got me excited like micro greens or heirloom produce not readily found at other booths. In addition to that, I knew they also had a prime spot on the Salt River (great fly fishing) and raised Wagyu beef (one of the most delicious products in the world) so needless to say, when I heard there was a restaurant going in, I was excited.

Opening just last week, The Restaurant at The Cakebread Ranch has an all star cast that will undoubtably make your next meal something to talk about. The consulting chef on the project, Laurent Gras, has obtained three Michelin stars at three different restaurants. Executive Chef René Stein has worked as chef de cuisine at the Michelin star restaurant Seäsonal and most recently at Hospoda in New York before making the trek out to Wyoming. While these two talented chefs will ensure your food is exquisite, General Manager Jean-Pierre Yvart who has worked for restaurateurs such as Gordon Ramsey, will make sure your front of house experience remains perfect as well.

Jill and Steve Cakebread, who purchased the land in 2007, have set out their farm with the same attention to quality that the restaurant now instills. Jen Bach, responsible for the on-site 5 acre farm. institutes sustainable and organic practices that will be used in conjunction with the restaurant for their farm to table concept. Jim Norman, who is responsible for the ranching operation, is in charge of raising the 100 percent full-blood Wagyu cattle with gentle handling and non-GMO organic feed.

The Restaurant is open Wednesday through Saturday 5 to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for brunch. For reservations call 307-883-2247.

Knowing that we can have world class dinning set on the natural beauty of the Salt River in Thayne is exciting; A hidden gem just south of Jackson is awaiting your discovery.

Food and cooking has been a great travel buddy for Chris, finally taking root in Jackson. Originally from Seattle, Chris enjoys rainy walks to get coffee, cold dark beers, and cozying up in a warm restaurant kitchen. He has a background in marketing but has spent most of his days working in fine dining behind the line. Now you can find him selling hummus, perusing the farmers markets, or mountain biking behind his Aussie Shephard, Zephyr.
