People’s Market Reopens for the Summer in Phases

By. Lauren Teruya

The People’s Market is back and it’s safer than ever… Slow Food in the Tetons – the local non-profit sponsor  – opened the market last Wednesday following Teton County Health Department guidelines. The market usually spans across the entire parking lot packing 60 tents, live musicians and happy picnickers, but for now, people are required to wear masks, maintain 6 feet distances from others and the market is in phase one of three for reopening (dictated by the health department).

Phase One: Unprepared foods from local ranchers, farmers, and artisans.

Phase Two: Packaged foods.

Phase Three: Prepared foods, live music, and alcohol; full market.

While the market is off to a smaller start than usual, two new egg farmers joined the market: Gallus + Gallus and Chicken Land Farm. And although you can’t buy a summer sloshie yet, Jackson Hole Still Works now sells sanitizing products at the market’s entrance. Scott Steen, the executive director of Slow Food in the Tetons, says the market will continue to grow as we get further into the season.

The People’s Market happens every Wednesday all summer from 4-7 p.m. at the base of Snow King. For more information on guidelines go to here.
