Here is a surprise SAT question for you: Please use a portmanteau word in a sentence. I’m guessing unless you ended up getting a linguistics degree, you are probably in the dark on this one. Turns out we use portmanteau words all the time, one in particular has exploded in the vernacular over the past couple years: hangry. A portmanteu refers to a mixing of two words to create one, in this case hungry and angry come together to aptly describe a problem we all suffer from time to time.
I have noticed a lot of people getting very hangry after 10 p.m. Maybe you had a late lunch or didn’t get off work until 9:45 p.m. or maybe you are just naturally a late eater. Either way, options get a little slimmer if you want to eat past 10 p.m. Although Jackson might lack the food trucks lining the streets at night picking off suddenly hungry bar flies like fish in a barrel, we have plenty of options to help you get by without scrounging the fridge for leftovers.

It is impossible to go wrong with their Melvin Burger (pictured above in all its glory), Skid Curry or wings, especially when they are two thirds the menu price. You can also find a rotating selection of discounted beers to accompany their award winners if you find yourself thirsty as well.
Local: While dinner service usually stops around 9 to 9:30 p.m. the bar side pumps out food for another hour or so, depending on the night. The often-packed horseshoe bar, booth seats and high top tables stay full throughout the evening, so if you are lucky enough to find a seat to enjoy your burger or charcuterie plate, don’t give it up.
Sidewinders: Looking for late night options in West Jackson? Don’t worry there are more options than just grabbing a take and bake pizza from Albertsons. Sidewinders stops serving their full menu at 10 p.m. but continues to whip up their tasty homemade pizzas until 11 p.m.
Snake River Brewing: If you find yourself drinking beer at the pub until 9:45 and then the hunger kicks in, just remain seated. The Brewpub serves a full menu until 11 p.m., which means you don’t have to settle for pizza or a burger unless you really want one (they have really good options of both).
