Who doesn’t love a good themed dinner party? And the best theme I have heard of in a while came from Sloane Bergien, who runs the Jackson Hole Farmers Market, as well as is the President of the Board of the Farmers Market on the Town Square.
Recently, she hosted a dinner party for 10 at her house and only had to stop at one market to do the shopping (shocking, I know!). That market? The Farmers Market on the Town Square.
Bergien said she got the idea because in the 14-year life of the market, it has grown so much that she thought it would be a fun experiment.
“I was pleasantly surprised that it was the only place I needed to shop that day. I was able to create a really nice, multi course dinner.”
Her guests, she said, were impressed. “It made them all want to go to the market more often.”
On the menu that night was a big green salad, hummus and tzatziki with a veggie platter, grilled bread with a specialty oil, cheese from four separate vendors, two kinds of quiche and two different kinds of local meat, each with different spice blend for seasoning. For dessert, there were too many options for Bergien to choose so she bought fruit, a chocolate tart, fruit paste candies and chocolates.
The guests even got a thank you present for coming: a choice of seasoned salt rub or fresh jam. Can you please invite me next time?
All in all, Bergien visited about 15 booths that day for her goods. The selection, she said, was impressive.
This Saturday is the last regular market on the square. If you don’t have plans, you should experiment with your own all farmers market dinner. There will also be lunch options from OYG Catering and Momo Shack this Saturday.
