Fish Tacos for a Fun Lunch

Chippy's fish tacosEvery now and then it’s fun to get out of town for lunch. Going to Chippy’s Kitchen and Catering in Wilson is like an escape from a busy day. The relaxed cabin has a fun vibe, offers quaint spaces inside and picnic tables outside in the sun.

A couple of weeks ago, we found out owner Chippy Sherman added fresh fish tacos to the regular menu. Originally a special, Chippy’s version was so popular she decided to make them a daily menu item. And we are glad she did!

Having spent last spring in Alaska and worked on fishing boats in the past, Chippy knows how to cook good fish, and she also has Alaskan sources to fly her fresh halibut. The tacos are piled high with fresh, grilled fish, salsa, mango salsa and come with the salad of the day (when I went it was a delicious toasted kale that worked perfectly with the fish).

She has a system for keeping the tacos together without falling apart — the two layers of corn tortillas are stuffed with melted cheese. Since adding the tacos to the menu, Chippy said she has has many customers swear they are the best in town. Go try them!

Two tacos and a side salad costs $11, and they are open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
