While my dining companions often stick with the classic meat dishes, I opt for the fish tacos every time.
As a food editor, it can be a little bit of a pain for everyone involved that I don’t eat red meat. It is a habit I started at 8 years old, and can’t seem to break. So when a friend suggested lunch at Big Hold BBQ one day, I hesitated. The menu is full of popular and classic barbecue, aka, meat.
He quickly jumped into note that they have the best fish tacos in town. Now that sounded just like what I was craving. So, off we went. And that, as they say, was history. Now anytime I am in town and need a fish taco fix, I head to Big Hole.
The mahi mahi fish is grilled and topped with slaw and a firecracker sauce. This is loaded into your choice of corn or flour tortillas (I go with the flour) and can also come with pico de gallo, cilantro, onion and pickled jalapeño (I get them loaded).
The fish tastes fresh and with all the toppings added, the two tacos are more than a meal (you may not want to, but it is easy and filling enough to split an order with a friend). Next time you find yourself with a craving or at this popular barbecue spot already, I suggest you try them. You will likely, like me, be back for more!
