Foodie Resolutions for 2020

It is officially 2020, which means it’s the perfect time to start those resolutions! Now that you’ve unwrapped a new generation of gadgets for your kitchen, it’s time to implement some challenges that will make you a better cook, a worldly adventurer and a healthier human.

Join a CSA: Not only does joining a CSA mean that you’ll have the freshest local produce possible all season long, but it will also force you to get more creative in the kitchen. Get a box full of kale and zucchini? You’ll figure out how to utilize it in ways you never thought possible. CSAs can be pricey and generally yield a good deal of produce, so don’t hesitate to split one with a friend. For bonus points? Join a meat CSA, too!cosmic apple csa

Try something you’re scared of: Everyone has that one they’ve always wanted to make, but are scared to. For me, it’s ravioli. Try to pick a couple of things that have been on your “I really need to try making that…” list and spend a day in the kitchen. At the end of the year, you’ll feel like you’ve truly grown. Better yet? Try something new in the kitchen every single week for the year! Homemade doughnuts are a great place to start if you haven’t already.

Take a class: Cooking classes are offered in cities around the world–including this city, as part of CWC’s community enrichment classes at the Center for the Arts. The next time you’re traveling, or even if you’re just looking for a local activity, sign up for a cooking class! Whether it be a cocktail course, a cake decorating class or even just a cooking demo where you watch an instructor prepare dishes for you, participating in cooking classes is a fantastic way to expand your knowledge and even meet other foodies!cooking class

Go vegetarian (or vegan) every Monday: By abiding by Meatless Monday for one year, you can save about 29 animal’s lives. Although that may seem low, if you keep up with this movement throughout the years, the numbers start adding up. Additionally, going meatless on Monday will help the environment and your health! Confused about what to cook? Check out meatlessmonday.com for recipe inspiration and more information.

Don’t be afraid to order takeout: We all love being in the kitchen cooking, but we may also need a break from time to time. Sure, you can hit up the newest hot spot in town, but we vote for an evening of sinking into your couch and calling out for Hand Fire Pizza or Phoenix and the Dragon. Everyone needs time to relax and decompress. Sometimes, reality television and greasy (greasiness not required) takeout are just what the doctor ordered.

All of the menu items at The Phoenix and the Dragon are takeout friendly!

Do the opposite of what you’re used to doing: If you always cook, try baking more. And if you prefer baking, try cooking more. It’s always fun to get out of your comfort zone to add a new talent to the mix.
