A Market for the People

Farmers market season in Jackson comes with much excitement, but also much anxiety for me. The prospect of making my meals from farm fresh eggs and sausage in the mornings or  a salad of locally grown greens and vegetables at night would have seemed like heaven a couple months ago.

Along with a friend of mine, I decided to try out a business last year selling hummus, Teton Hummus. We wanted a way to connect with people in the community and offer a high quality product that you couldn’t find anywhere else. We had no idea what kind of commitment this entailed until there was no turning back. We loved it so much we are back again for more. The love for the markets holds true with all of the farmers, producers and artists that come to both the People’s and Town Square markets; they love being part of the community and sharing what they have to offer.

Lauren Conrad and Friends at the People’s Market

The People’s Market is first on the docket this summer and is kicking off its fifth year at the base of Snow King. Swing by from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays to stock up on local produce, prepared food, and of course, a beer with your friends. There will be live music every week starting with Lauren Conrad and Friends tonight. The beer and food this year includes Snake River Brewery, Roadhouse Brewing Co., and Melvin Brewing, along with food from Everest Momo Shack, Thai Me Up, Rosa’s Tamales, Bubba’s and Fired Earth Pizza. There will be plenty of farm fresh produce, so make sure to swing by for all your grocery needs as well. The People’s Market wouldn’t be complete without the Bike-In movies in August, so keep your eye on their website for the lineup which will be posted later this summer.

Come out and celebrate summer tonight, whether it’s snowing or not. Know that those vendors appreciate you just as much as you appreciate all those treats you are putting in your bag. I love the feeling of handing my dollars to the farmer, producer or artist who is making the goodies I am taking home with me.

Chris Hogberg

Food and cooking has been a great travel buddy for Chris, finally taking root in Jackson. Originally from Seattle, Chris enjoys rainy walks to get coffee, cold dark beers, and cozying up in a warm restaurant kitchen. He has a background in marketing but has spent most of his days working in fine dining behind the line. Now you can find him selling hummus, perusing the farmers markets, or mountain biking behind his Aussie Shephard, Zephyr.
