From snacks to wines the shop makes it easy to create a picnic in Teton Village.
Today’s wine adventure took me out to The Mangy Moose Market & Cellars. Located under the Moose in Teton Village, the market is a hidden gem for some great grab-and-go snacks and beverages.
The recently remodeled Moose Market has a fabulous charcuterie selection. Find everything from prosciutto, and salamis, to fruit, an outstanding cheese selection, plus shelves full of crackers, nuts, and more.
In my opinion, the shop has a beautiful wine selection so you might as well bust out a charcuterie board, grab some wine and enjoy an outdoor experience. The Moose makes a perfect stop after a hike, a day of downhill biking at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort or to enjoy some time on the grass by the creek. If you are like me, you will most likely have a river knife or Leatherman to slice cheese and salami stashed in the car for just these sorts of occasions.
The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable. Tammy has been curating the program for longer than I can remember. Dawn knows her rosé and can help select fantastic wine in a can. Ellie and Christine can quickly answer questions and guide you to some favorites. After chatting with the ladies, I came up with three great wines with charcuterie to match.
- Gros Ventre, White Blend: A favorite wine with the staff, this bottle is a crazy blend of grapes that makes a beautifully aromatic and bright wine. It is named after the Gros Ventre mountains, where winemakers Sarah and Chris Pittenger met when living in Jackson Hole. Pair it with some rich mozzarella, aged gouda, apples and some salted nuts.

- Flure De Mer, Cotes de Provence, Rosé: This wine invokes watermelon cherry and subtle peach aromas, with hints of lavender and herbs, which the French refer to as “garrigue.” This wine is classically Provencal. I would suggest a light cheese, like fresh goat cheese and the dried strawberries, yum! Toss in some salty/fatty prosciutto and nuts. Then, hang out by the fun water features in the village commons.

- Villa Varda, Cabernet Franc from Fruilli-Venezia, Italy: This Cab Franc from north eastern Italy is beautifully savory, full-bodied and offers a lingering smoky black cherry thing. The wine is quite complex for the price and would entertain the most snobby of wine snobs. This bottle goes perfectly with blue cheese, as it soften the savory tannins and make the wine even yummier. Traditional salami and some fig crackers will highlight the earthy and fruity of this adorable red wine.
