A Local Taste: Brittany Belisle of Home Yoga

Brittany Belisle, owner of Home Yoga, began her studies in 2008 with a one-way ticket to India. She learned traditional Ashtanga yoga at the Pattabhis Jois Ashtanga Institute, and received her first 200-hour certificate in this practice. She has taken over 1,100 hours of yoga trainings, in a variety of styles and lineages and has received a MA in education. She has created comprehensive yoga curriculum for public high schools and yoga schools.

After over 20 years of dedicated practice and study, Belisle’s mindful vinyasa classes will strengthen and stretch your body and mind, bringing you to your natural state of space of expansive steadiness and ease. Her dynamic and inspiring yoga classes integrate yogic philosophy, chanting, mindfulness, challenging asana and pranayama. Expect Sanskrit, laughter, an arm balance, and still moments dedicated to pure awareness.

When did you open Home Yoga and why did you name it “Home?”

Home Yoga was born two years ago in November of 2022. This beautiful building is an old Jackson Hole schoolhouse and has been a yoga studio for the Jackson community for 20+ years! When I asked my kids what I should name it, they had no suggestions at first (and silence is pretty rare for a 3 and 4 year olds) but eventually Goldie said, “Home.” I loved it because every time I practice yoga it is like coming home to yourself. In ancient poems and spiritual texts, home is a word used often to describe conscious awareness that can be found at our spiritual heart center. Home is not a place, but a feeling of ease, acceptance, comfort and love.

Many people who come into our studio say that it feels like home because it is warm and welcoming and supportive for all bodies and ages. We love you for who you are and invite you to feel more “at home” within your body and mind!

What’s your favorite class you offer and why?

I am partial to Sacred Sunday, it has so many amazing community members who attend! It combines fun, dynamic movement, breath work and weaves in yogic philosophy from the yoga sutras of Patanjali. I also love our Yoga Nidra and Hot Stone Restorative classes to decrease your stress, have a more balanced nervous system and enjoy the benefits of slowing down!  But this week, I am having so much FUN toning my booty and dancing in our newest Shakti Sculpt class.

Any special events coming up over the next couple of months?

Home is the place for fun, sacred and mindful community events in Jackson Hole. Look for Full & New Moon Gatherings, Kirtans & Caco, Heart Openings, Soundbaths, Astrology 101, MELT method for skiers and more… plus Intro to Breathwork, Intro to Meditation and Beginner Yoga Series starting in February.

What’s your favorite pre-yoga meal and post-yoga meal?

Before my morning practices I drink a glass of lemon water and a cup of coffee I make with Snake River Roasting beans. I am often seen at Pearl Street Bagels for a quick carb loaded lunch or a Juice and nourishing lunch at Healthy Being.

Where are your favorite places in town to dine?

Family Night: Jackson Drug or Sidewinders

Girl’s Night: Bin 22 or Figs

Sweets Treat: Creme brûlée with a glass of port at The Bistro

What are the benefits of yoga especially during winter/ski season?

Yoga hydrates the tissues in your body and brings a youthfulness to the way you move and feel in your body. While yoga increases your muscle and joint mobility, it decreases the likelihood for injury. Yoga gives you a better posture, balance and coordination.

Yoga also improves your cardiovascular health, enhances your focus through stress, lowers blood pressure and increases your immunity by encouraging lymph flow. By adding yoga to your week, you will be able to ski longer days, recover quicker so you can charge all the pow days and develop a mental state of equanimity and gratitude – even through village road traffic.
