Add Some Spice To Your Mornings

Nothing embraces fall more than starting your morning with a pumpkin spice latte. While there are lots of places around town to get your fix, Jackson Whole Grocer‘s coffee counter is high on our list of places to visit. Not only is it incredibly convenient to buy your groceries and coffee at the same place, but their team of baristas keep their seasonal flavors exciting. Along with their pumpkin spice, this season, they’ve created a butterscotch caramel and tiramisu latte.

Unlike a lot of pumpkin forward lattes, Jackson Whole Grocer focuses on the spice. According to Keith Holmes, they mix the latte together with allspice, nutmeg, cocoa powder and cinnamon, to bring forward all the flavors of fall. For Holmes, a good latte and a bad latte are differentiated by the steamed milk.

“If you add too much air to it the whole time, then you’re just going to get foam. If you add no air to it, then you just get this weird uneven texture that just tastes like hot milk. So, if you steam it in a vortex, where it’s even the whole time, then the milk gets thick and frothy and that’s – in my opinion – the best way to have it.”

While the latte photographed featured whole milk, you can order any latte with skim, almond, oat, soy or coconut milk. And while it may be a little premature to talk about Christmas flavors, Holmes said to keep your eyes out for gingerbread and peppermint in the winter.
