The Things We Do For Good Food…

This is a challenge for all the foodies who enjoy working hard for delicious rewards. Here are the things you will need in order to complete it.

  1. A bike and lock
  2. Great hiking shoes
  3. TONS of water and energy bars
  4. Card/Cash
  5. Adventure buddy/buddies

Once you have everything listed above, you are ready for an EPIC day! Start in town and make your way toward the bike pass to Moose. This is a 14-mile ride full of climbing and gliding. You’ll have the opportunity to stop and snap a picture in front of the Grand Teton National Park or if you’re on a mission, snap a picture of the people in line to take a picture with the sign!

After this killer ride, you deserve a treat, so stop by Dornan’s Chuckwagon for out-of-this-world sourdough pancakes. These hotcakes surprise you with the tang of sourdough paired with the warmth of sweet butter and syrup. It’s delicious, light, fluffy and 100% earned. Before taking off for the next adventure, fill up water bottles, and stop by the general market for some dark chocolate covered coffee beans (you will not regret it).

As you hop back on the bike, you’re in for a beautiful ride down Moose Wilson Road. For 7 miles, enjoy Jackson’s wildlife, count how many chiselers you can spot and enjoy telling drivers to slow down as you make your way to the base of Granite Canyon.

Make sure you lock up your bike at the base and begin your climb! This is a mellow hike with a beautiful reward. After 3 miles, you should reach a gorgeous view of huge granite boulders stacked on top of one another. If you climb up to the left, enjoy a beautiful aerial view of Granite Creek. This is the perfect opportunity to down some water and break out those chocolate covered coffee beans! After you refuel, continue on for less than a mile to the top of the creek where the water is much calmer. Take some deep breaths and jump in to ice those muscles (it’s painful, but so rewarding after you get out)!

teton thai

Once you’ve returned back down to the base, hop back on your bike for a very short 3-mile ride down Moose Wilson Road to Teton Thai. Finally, sit down outdoors in a real chair and enjoy every bite! The salad rolls paired with the fried tofu are an amazingly satisfying, yet light meal to keep you energized without passing out, but feel free to go for something heavier if you’re starved! Just remember, you still have to get home!

bike route

After your delicious afternoon treat, you may want to rest under a shady tree, walk around Teton Village or grab a cup of coffee at the Jackson Hole General Store for an afternoon pick-me-up.

When you’re ready to head home, take the Moose Wilson bike path back home for about 15 miles. While your legs may be tired, try to take the path that hugs the local cattle ranch. The cattle are so gorgeous, and at this time of year, there are so many baby cows to meet!

Once you return home, bask in the 40 miles of biking and 6 miles of hiking that your body accomplished. Pat yourself on the back, take a hot shower and sleep! You deserved it!
