Learn the Nuances of Coffee

See. Swirl. Smell. Sip. Savor. Those are the five rules of wine tasting. But what about coffee?

Snake River Roasting is hosting two classes for food professionals, foodies, and coffee lovers focused on coffee tasting. Guest instructor Kathi Zollman, who helped to produce the Specialty Coffee Association of American course content and has been a significant contributor to the science of coffee roasting, will be presenting a tasting class and a Le Nez du Café class. Both classes will be head at Snake River Roasters facility south of town. Here are the details:

Coffee Tasting:  10 a.m. to noon May 18

This class will explore aspects such as body, acidity, flavor and aroma, giving a language to the things we experience.  At the conclusion, there will be a sample cupping to demonstrate protocol.

Le Nez du Café:  10 a.m. to noon May 20

Like wine, most of what people experience in coffee is aroma.  This class delves deeply into the specific aromas experienced with coffee. (Note: It would be helpful to attend the Wednesday coffee tasting class or have previous coffee tasting experience.)

Class sizes are limited, so RSVP with attendee names and email addresses to reserve your spot. The address is 3610 Southpark Drive.  beans@snakeriverroastingco.com or call/text 307-734-9446

Cara Rank

Also originally from the South, Cara Rank discovered cooking was a creative outlet that helped her relax after long days writing magazine and newspaper articles during the past eight years in Jackson. Really, she just missed Southern food. A lot. During a 12-year career as a journalist, Cara has won numerous awards for her work and has written about everything from rodeo queens to Dolly Parton tomatoes. She spends her weekends making jars of pickles and jam and amazing dinners for friends. She loves shishito peppers, Chicago-style hot dogs and elderflower-spiked cocktails.
