Spread Your Wings

Chicken wings have become as American as apple pie. Perhaps it is because they are synonymous with beer drinking and sports-spectating, or maybe it’s their deep fried crispy goodness. Either way, they seem to grace the menus of a Sports Bar in Katy TX to dive bars and fancy restaurants alike. As a town, we are slowly moving into hibernation mode, waiting until the snow starts falling to kick our butts out of the house. Couple that with football Sundays, world series baseball, and various other sporting events, and wings just might be the food of choice on these early fall days. There are plenty of places carrying the wing torch, and we are here to fill you in about some of our favorite options.

wings2-1-650x485Eleanors: This sports bar in the back of Plaza Liquors is one of your best wing options in town. Choose from multiple different sauces and two carriers (chicken or pork wings) for your culinary experience at this sports staple. You can feel comfortable going with the spicy option from 4 to 6 p.m. as they have two for one drinks as well.

Local Butcher: This is a perfect option if you are looking to host a wing night at your house. The Local Butcher stocks wings from their adjoining restaurant for a great take home option. They reheat perfectly for guests during game day action.

Hole Bowl: Jackson’s newest attraction boasts some great food options to accompany their 10 bowling lanes. Be sure to stock up on wet naps before rolling. Their traditional or Dave’s Asian style are finger-licking delicious.

Snake River Brew Pub:homepage-food-4wings The SRB wings in a staple accompaniment to any one of their award-winning brews. Served with the traditional accoutrements, looks for wing specials during the weekends and offseason.

Local: This downtown steakhouse doesn’t skimp on their wings. Enjoy eight wings for $10 during their lunch and dinner service or for $5 during their 4 to 6 p.m. happy hour. Choose from Sambal or pad Thai sauce to garnish your smoked wings

Pinky G’s: Few things act as a better accompaniment to pizza than wings. Snag a dozen for $12, and choose from mild, hot, teriyaki, barbecue, honey mustard, and hot honey. Served with your classic celery, carrot and ranch or blue cheese accompaniments.

Cutty’s: Although known best for their cheesesteaks and pizza, Cutty’s wings aren’t too shabby, either. Maybe it’s the lively sports crowds or the neighborhood feel, but few things accompany watching your favorite teams play on their big screens like a basket of deep fried chicken goodness.

imgresThai Me Up: What they are lacking in flavor options, they make up for in quality. TMU does their wings in a spicy Sambal sauce and do them well. They are best enjoyed during their happy hours from 5 to 6 p.m. or 10 to close in the restaurant and all day at the bar during the offseason.

Silver Dollar Bar: The Wort takes the traditional chicken wing up a notch by smoking them before throwing them in the fryer. Enjoy a basket of a dozen for $13 served with their traditinal buffalo sauce.

Sidewinders: This sports bar was featured on “Diners, Drive In’s, and Dives” for some of their classic pub fare. While the chicken wings didn’t make the show, they are still a noteworthy accompaniment to this west jackson sports bar’s menu.

The Handle Bar: This is probably your best bet when it comes to Sunday football watching in the village. Choose from Korean barbecue, kalbi glaze or traditional hot sauce for your crispy wings. Be sure to also check out their deals for Sunday and Monday night football games.

Million Dollar Cowboy Steakhouse: Although it’s not chicken, the MDCS’s buffalo fried quail is definetly worth an honorable mention. Stop by after 9 p.m. to take advantage of their late night happy hour with drink and bar menu specials.
