SUMMARY:Hearts of Glass Documentary Premiere
DESCRIPTION:A new feature-length documentary about a big idea from small-town Wyoming has been traveling the film festival circuit from California to New York in recent months. In June\, the inspiring story\, Hearts of Glass\, about Jackson Hole’s Vertical Harvest returns to its roots for a local premiere.\nPraised as “a breath of fresh air – inspiring\, heart-warming and joyful” by the Wild & Scenic Film Festival\, the documentary by Wyoming-based JenTen Productions follows the exciting – and at times tumultuous – first 15 months of operation of Vertical Harvest. Vertical Harvest is a state-of-the-art hydroponic greenhouse that grows crops while providing meaningful\, competitively-paid jobs for people with disabilities. \n“For me\, Hearts of Glass represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share a story of possibilities unfolding in my own backyard\,” director/producer Jennifer Tennican said. “Prepare to be transported. This is as close to being part of a high-tech agricultural startup and social experiment as many of us will ever get. I believe it will challenge your perceptions about abilities\, the benefits of meaningful employment and the power of inclusion.”\nFor the upcoming premiere\, the presenting partners – Think WY | Wyoming Humanities\,JenTen Productions\, Slow Food in the Tetons and Cultivate – are delighted to share the results of Tennican’s filmmaking efforts with the community on June 1 at the Center for the Arts in Jackson. Tickets\, which go on sale on May 1 at noon\, are $15 (including Vendini fee) for the movie-only option and $55 (including Vendini fee) for the movie + dinner option\, a Jedediah’s-catered dinner in the Center Lobby\, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Center box office at 265 S. Cache Street in Jackson or online at JHCenterForTheArts.org. The direct link for the event is HERE.\nHearts of Glass had its world premiere at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Northern California in January. It has since screened at film festivals on both coasts and in the Midwest\, with audiences praising its intersecting themes of social entrepreneurship\, sustainable local food production\, disability advocacy and community inclusion.\n“I have come to believe that these thematic intersections are an opportunity to create new communities and connections\,” Tennican said. “I want viewers to be swept up by the momentum and\, at times\, the chaos of this startup; I want viewers to appreciate the nuances of each character’s personality; and\, I want viewers to be inspired by how one Wyoming community is dealing with pressing social and environmental issues.”\nThe film was supported in part by grants from Wyoming Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities\, Wyoming Arts Council\, Wyoming Humanities Council\, First Interstate Bank\, Center of Wonder and Puffin Foundation. The film’s executive producer is Lisa Lord-Price. Other funders include the Laakmann Family\, Agnes Bourne\, the Cheramy Foundation\, Hub International Mountain States Limited\, Community Foundation of Jackson Hole\, and Mike and Patti Gierau. SUMMARY:Batsheva Dance Company
DESCRIPTION:BATSHEVA DANCE COMPANY\nVENEZUELA\nBY OHAD NAHARIN\n\n“[Ohad Naharin] has transformed the Israeli troupe… in the past few decades into one of the world’s greatest.” — The New York Times\n\nDancers’ Workshop presents internationally-renowned Batsheva Dance Company to Jackson\, Wyoming. Batsheva returns to North America in Spring 2019 with a new evening-length work\, Venezuela\, in which Naharin and the dancers explore the dialogue and conflict between movement and the content it represents. Naharin created Venezuela in two 40-minute sections placed in juxtaposition. In this multi-faceted and compelling work\, the endless possibilities of a choreographer’s craft are at play\, and in turn\, Venezuela compels the audience to challenge their own freedom of choice. \nMONDAY\, MARCH 18\n7:30PM\nThe Center Theater\nAdult $55-75 / Student $25\n(plus $3 box office fee per ticket)\nTICKETS ON SALE JANUARY 3\n\nBatsheva’s Ohad Naharin is known worldwide for his adventurous vision and distinctive choreographic voice. He is widely considered to be one of the great dance pioneers of his generation. Under Naharin’s direction for the past 27 years\, Batsheva has become one of the world’s preeminent dance companies. Based in Tel Aviv\, the eighteen dancers of Batsheva’s senior company are cast globally and are trained by Naharin in his original movement language he has coined “Gaga”. A signature of Batsheva’s dancers is their visceral physicality combined with the depth and consistency of their training— a quality that is at once raw and virtuosic. \n“Batsheva Dance Company [is] one of the world’s hottest contemporary dance troupes… Expect plenty of explosive energy and raw emotional intensity.” — The Toronto Star\n“Batsheva dancers move in entirely hypnotic and unique ways.” — Chicago Sun Times\n“Seventeen dancers sweep for 1.5 hours the stage with an energy that no one can evade or resist.” — Translated from Süddeutsche Zeitung about Venezuel

SUMMARY:Joshua Radin & Lissie at CFA
DESCRIPTION:The Center Presents \nJoshua Radin & Lissie with Special Guest Lily Kershaw \nFebruary 27\, 2019 at 7PM \nThe Center Theater \nTickets go on sale Dec 5 at 12PM MT \n$28-38 plus $3 processing fee \n\nLove and the complications surrounding it have long proven to be Joshua Radin’s songwriting forte. Though he never intended to be a live performer\, there was little choice when the first song he ever wrote\, “Winter\,” was featured on an episode of “Scrubs.” The resulting fervor around the song soon led to a record deal\, and over the last decade\, Radin has toured the world countless times\, sold hundreds of thousands of records and topped the iTunes charts\, earned raves from Rolling Stone to The Guardian\, performed on “The Tonight Show\,” “Conan\,” and more\, played Ellen DeGeneres’ wedding at her personal request\, and had his songs featured in more than 150 different films\, commercials\, and TV shows. \n\nLissie grew up in Rock Island\, Illinois\, near the Mississippi River\, speaking her mind and writing songs from an early age. She will release her fourth studio album Castles on March 23. The new music follows the release of her 2016 album My Wild West\, which received widespread critical praise. \nWritten predominantly from Lissie’s new home in Northeast Iowa\, Castles represents a spiritual as well as musical development. It’s a portrait of an artist who has always been on the move and is finally creating a sense of permanency—a chance to catch her breath and reflect. Of the record\, Lissie says\, “The album title Castles and the themes of the music itself suggest a striving and a heightened vantage point. I can stand above myself in the tower of my mind and reflect on my relationships and life. There is a maturity\, experience and self awareness to these songs that feel like a natural progression within the context of my work to date.”

SUMMARY:National Theatre Live at CFA
DESCRIPTION:The Center Presents\nNational Theatre Live’s broadcast of\nKing Lear\nFebruary 25\, 2019\nThe Center Theater \n$20 Adults\n$15 Students\n(includes $3 processing) \n\nBroadcast live from London’s West End\, see Ian McKellen’s ‘extraordinarily moving portrayal’ (Independent) of King Lear in cinemas. \nChichester Festival Theatre’s production received five-star reviews for its sell-out run\, and transfers to the West End for a limited season. Jonathan Munby directs this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender\, violent\, moving and shocking play. \nConsidered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written\, King Lear sees two ageing fathers – one a King\, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery\, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

SUMMARY:Acoustic Evening at CFA
DESCRIPTION:The Center Presents \nAn Acoustic Evening with Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt \nFebruary 5\, 2019 at 7PM \nThe Center Theater \nSOLD OUT! Please join the waitlist by clicking the “Get Tickets” link. \n$129 (plus $3 processing fee) \n\nA singer\, composer and actor\, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling\, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country\, swing\, jazz\, folk\, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Whether touring as a ‘Duo’ or with his ‘Acoustic Group’ or his ‘Large Band’\, Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents\, but also the diversity of his influences\, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music. \nJohn Hiatt has risen to prominence by converting his personal tragedies into a catalog of recordings for more than four decades. Since the release of his 1974 debut\, “Hangin’ Around the Observatory\,” rarely has more than a year or two passed without a new Hiatt collection hitting the shelves. Hiatt’s raspy\, blues-based singing has been compared with that of Bruce Springsteen\, however\, Hiatt’s skill as a lyricist is the thread that ties his music together.
