The Sweet Life — Cookies for the Masses

“We sell very few desserts on Thursday,” said Bubba’s BBQ manager Jen Davidson. And why would the restaurant sell many desserts when it gives out-for free!!-some of the best cookies in town?

Bubba’s begins baking cookies at 9 every Thursday morning. They begin passing them out-for free!!-at 11 a.m.

Servers carry trays of cookies-oozy, gooey and the size of a meaty palm-out to tables. “People can have as many as they like,” Davidson said. Sometimes cookies arrive at tables still warm.

Nearly 1,000 cookies are baked a day in the ovens, which run until almost 2 p.m. The ability of a quality industrial mixer to mix large quantities of batter in a short period of time may also account for the ability to bake so many cookies on a daily basis.

For a few lucky businesses- 20, or so – around town, Bubba’s does cookie delivery. “We take them to businesses who have been friends for years,” Davidson said.

No word on exactly how long a business has to be Bubba’s customer before they graduate to getting cookie delivery. Also no word on the businesses that get the deliveries. “I think the businesses use them more personally than passing them out to their own customers though,” Davidson said. We’d do the same.

Davidson has been at Bubba’s for 23 years, and “we’ve been doing this for as long as I’ve been here,” she said. The recipes used are originals that came from Bubba himself.

Bubba’s rotates four cookie flavors: chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip, peanut butter and sugar. The chocolate chip cookies do not have nuts in them. They do have loads and loads of chocolate.

Cookies are given out every Thursday from 11 a.m. until the restaurant runs out. Best to get there early, just to be safe.
