Outpost Group, a local holding company, is expanding its horizons with the recent acquisition of Snake River Roasting Company. When the coffee company’s founder Ruth Ann Petroff decided she wanted to sell the business to spend more time with her family, she turned to Outpost Group, her biggest wholesale account.
According to Outpost’s Executive Director Meaghan Moylan, both parties thought it would be a natural fit, and Outpost purchased the business last November. Outpost uses Snake River Roasting company’s coffee in their welcome package for guests at vacation rentals.
Petroff is still involved in the venture, assisting with training and passing on her knowledge of the industry. All of Snake River Roasting’s employees made the transition with the new ownership.
“We’ve taken this approach, Ruth Ann was already running such a great company that we really wanted to give the team autonomy to make it their own. And we didn’t want to be too disruptive to their day-to-day process. Really, we want to be there for support.”

While keeping the integrity of the business is important, that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun with it. Outpost Group and Snake River Roasting Company are working on a rebrand including color palette and graphics for not only the merchandise, but also for a new cafe and eatery near Town Square, set to open early this summer. The cafe will be called Snake River Roasting Co. and will serve their proprietary coffee as well as doughnuts and new dishes from Provisions, also owned by Outpost.
“We are keeping our eyes and ears open for as much knowledge as we can soak up in the food and beverage space,” Moylan said. “But we also think that Snake River Roasting Company is such a special place and so many people love the coffee because they get to take a piece of Jackson Hole with them when they leave town.”
Snake River Roasting coffee is available at various grocery stores around town, as well as for purchase in reusable packaging through local company Avant Delivery with a monthly membership. Other businesses making up Outpost Group’s portfolio include Provisions, Terrain and O2 Cleaning.
