New Restaurant: Annie’s Thai Kitchen

Was it the brown paper covering the windows or the change in signage that clued you in to the restaurant change at 265 W. Broadway? For us, it was the bold block lettering of the newly lifted signage at Annie’s Thai Kitchen, the replacement of Kazumi Japanese Cuisine.annies thai kitchen

At the helm of change is Thailand-native Annie Jacla. After taking the flavors of traditional Thai food along on her emigration to the United States, Jacla refined her skills in the kitchen at Jackson’s Thai Plate. And Jacksonites have shown up in droves during the opening days to sample the menu’s bright and flavorful offerings.

But what will you order? There is no shortage of options in any of the following categories: appetizers, salads, soups, curries, noodle dishes and rice dishes. In the bite of this winter chill, there is nothing more satiating than a steaming bowl of noodles, rich with broth that is as fragrant as it is flavorful. For this, I recommend the khao soi: egg noodles in a curry base with chicken leg quarters, crispy noodles and cilantro.

Then again, why jump to the main event? Start with a crispy egg roll or a plate of sai oua. These grilled northern Thai style sausages are stuffed with ground pork, fresh and dried herbs and spices. Each of those morsels pack a punch of flavor. *No sauce necessary, but highly encouraged!

We could go on, or you can view the menu HERE.

If you think you can make the stomach room, save it for some soup. The Tom Yum is equally hot and sour, with a broth that is tasty enough to drink. But you’ll want to consume the contrasting textures and flavors of the meat, mushrooms and tomatoes as well!

For now, Annie’s is a BYOB establishment. So whether you’d pair your spice with a light beer or white wine, if you bring it, you can drink it! If you’re feeling creative, a flask of vodka or rum will elevate the smooth, sweet taste of their Thai ice tea.

In a small town with even smaller portions, we welcomed the size of this Thai ice tea (only $3!).

Annie’s serves lunch Monday-Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and dinner daily at 5 p.m. Now through December 20, receive a 10% discount when you pay with cash or check-in on Facebook or Instagram.

Sam Simma

Raised in the land of casseroles and deep fried cheese curds, Sam Simma left rural Wisconsin for the mountains of Wyoming in summer 2012. Her appetite for adventure is the only thing that rivals her passion for food. She has always used writing to document and critique her travel and dining experiences. Her warmest memories among family and friends have been associated with the food that was at the center of the occasion. From staging cooking shows with siblings to perfecting turtle brownies with her dad, today Sam enjoys connecting people over food by hosting cookie decorating parties, wine pairing nights, and Midwest-inspired potlucks. A dessert fanatic, she has come to impress friends and family with key lime pies, Oreo bon bons, and Snickers ice cream cakes that are far simpler than they could ever imagine. Shhh! Don’t tell.
