Some call it the most versatile food, others the most addictive, then there’s those (like my grandfather) who would declare that a meal is incomplete without it. I’m speaking, of course, about the splendid spud. It would be foolish to argue that there are many things that simultaneously fill and warm your belly quite like this vessel for salt and flavor. And it’s not just the Canadians who know how to bring their A-game enhancing these crispy-fried bad boys. Everyone knows and loves the 307 Fries at Spur Restaurant and Bar–they are a tasty and satisfying apres snack that have been a favorite for years. But all around town, we’re finding other varieties of fries piled high with cheesy, meaty, fatty goodness…
Cultivate Café’s Vegan Nacho Fries
Since opening their doors in the Jackson Hole Playhouse in the summer of 2019, Cultivate Café’s mission has been to accommodate for those often left out of the food community: namely vegan, gluten-free, and allergy conscious consumers. Sibling duo Sky and Savanna Garnick offer original items as well as vegan takes on classics. One such item is their vegan nacho fries. This dish features hand-cut fries topped with black beans, a deliciously spicy vegan guacamole jalapeño queso, fresh scallion, Pico de Gallo and vegan crema. If you’re looking to up your protein intake, you can add seasoned jackfruit, chicken or Lockhart beef.
Big Hole BBQ Fries
Known for their skill with meats, Big Hole BBQ in Jackson offers Big Hole Fries: a basket of fries topped with onions, jalapeños, brisket, house-made cheese sauce and their original BBQ sauce. The heat from the peppers and acidity from the BBQ sauce cut through the juicy, rich brisket and cheese-covered fries. A perfect treat to indulge in while watching a football game or sharing a meal with friends.
Streetfood Loaded al Pastor Fries
Put your village nachos and wings aside for the perfect pass lap après: Streetfood’s loaded al pastor fries. Picture a heaping mound of their infamously delicious house-cut fries piled high with shaved al pastor pork, cheese, onions and avocado cream. They’ll simultaneously fill you up and keep you fueled for your next lap.
Thai Me Up’s Thai Poutine
A local favorite, Thai Me Up is the place to go for some delicious suds and good food while you bounce between free-ski and karate movies. Their menu features a mix of traditional Thai and American bar food, often fusing the two together in dishes like their Chiang Mai cheesesteak, Thai wings, and (of course) Thai poutine. These house-cut fries are topped with their curry of the day (otherwise known as the skid curry), mozzarella cheese curds and scallions. Feeling extra porky? Add bacon for $2 or pulled pork for $6.
Jackson Drug’s Three Varieties of Loaded Fries
Serving the community since 1919 (with a brief interlude in the early 2000s), Jackson Drug serves up a lot more than nostalgia for the way things used to be done. Among the American diner classics, you’ll find three varieties of sauced up fries to munch on alongside your milkshake. If you’re in the mood for something simply delicious, try the loaded fries served up with melted white cheddar cheese, bacon, scallions and sour cream. Feeling that ball-game flavor? Try the chili cheese fries, they’re the same as the first just slathered with homemade chili. Or maybe you have a taste for something a little sharper? Go for the blue cheese fries, where a blue cheese fondue coats your fries and is accompanied by bacon, scallions and sour cream.
