Hole Holiday High Fashion

With the onslaught of holiday party invitations, community events, and family functions coming up, it is the perfect excuse to go shopping for a new holiday outfit. We stopped by Terra and chatted with owner Dana Souther about her favorite picks for this holiday season as well as her stylish tips on how to survive dressing for the holidays. If you are attending the annual holiday library benefit Saturday make sure to stop by Terra and look through all their new pieces for the winter.

Dana’s Winter Fashion Tips:

  1. Remove the puffy jacket. I repeat… Remove the puffy jacket! We all have become so accustomed to wearing our big puffy down jackets in the winter that we forget that we might look like a fashion disaster in it. So, for this holiday season, choose an alternative option–perhaps go for some awesome gothic hoodies or colorful cable-knit cardigans.
  2. Don’t be afraid of sparkle. It’s the holiday season, meaning there is no exucse not to wear sparkle. The holidays are for celebrating the end of the year and the beginning of a new year. It is a great excuse to pull out that sequin top you’ve been dying to wear but haven’t found the right party for it yet. If you’re interested in a choker, you could even treat yourself to a sparkly one from Adina’s Jewels or another jewelry store. Wear something that’ll make you stand out from the crowd.
  3. Don’t be Giada. Here at dishing we love our cooking shows, and Giada de Laurentiis might be my favorite because she is always done up beautifully (and her cooking is divine!) Unlike Giada most of us haven’t been professionally cooking for years, and we sometimes always get a little kitchen goop on our clothes. Instead of preparing your holiday meal in high fashion, wait until the last 15 minutes before guests arrive to actually get dressed.
  4. Do wear what is comfortable. Do you know you are about to dance the night away? Don’t wear a high pointed heel unless you know a) your feet are ready and b) you don’t have to walk in snow to get to the venue. Are you planning on having a huge meal at Christmas? Plan accordingly and wear something with a little give.
  5. Have fun dressing up the kids. The holiday season is a great time to dress up your kiddos in outfits that aren’t their normal wear. Terra has a great selection of kids clothes that will for sure make the family holiday card stand out.

Here are some of Terra’s selections for holiday attire.

Mollie Flaherty

Mollie is a native Cape Codder who learned at an early age how to put a lobster to sleep, harvest cranberries, and dig for clams. After high school she followed her sense of adventure out west to the University of Wyoming where she graduated with marketing and communication degrees. She found herself making roots in Jackson, her fiance’s hometown, and using her sales skills combined with her love of anything delicious to join the Dishing sales team. She loves baking from scratch, large glasses of red wine, and hiking with her heeler, Newton. She’ll try anything, but remains a stuck up Cape Codder when it comes to seafood. If she didn’t catch it or see it come off the boat, don’t even try tempting her.
