Hole Food Rescue’s Million Pound Party Returns to the Center for the Arts

The Million Pound Party is (finally) back on! Hole Food Rescue’s annual Million Pound Party returns to the Center for the Arts lawn on Thursday, August 25th after a long hiatus.

The fundraiser, which has been canceled due to Covid for the past two years, is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, with five local chefs facing off in a pig roast cook-off. Chef Cody Allen of Calico, Chef Juan Morales of Rosa’s Home Made Family, Chef Amando Perfecto of Jedediah’s, Chef Michael Rollinson of the Four Seasons, and Chef Jeremy Williamson of Blue Collar Group will face off to create the best dish with pork donated by Haderlie Farms

“This would not be possible without the help of our incredible staff, volunteers, food donors, financial supporters, chefs and community partners,” said Hole Food Rescue Board Member Lisa Lent. “The Million Pound Party is a celebration of this great team of people and our community.”

Million Pound Party

In addition to the excitement of the Million Pound Party’s return, Hole Food Rescue is also celebrating a big milestone this August: 2 million pounds of food rescued since 2013.

The Sprout Mobile (HFR’s mobile lunch truck for kids) will be there to distribute kids’ food, as well as a booth to distribute rescued produce and other healthy items to take home. “It’s a great way to visualize what is happening to perfectly edible, nutritious food throughout the world,” adds Lent, who shared the staggering statistic that about 40% of food produced in the U.S. goes to waste each year. “HFR’s Million Pound Party is an event that not only celebrates food and its resources but spreads awareness of food waste and educates attendees on preventing it happening within their homes.”

The Million Pound Party is a family-friendly event, with live music from Strumbucket, face painting, lawn games, bike blender smoothies, and a silent auction with some great prizes from local businesses. If you don’t eat pork, that’s okay too! This year, HFR is offering more vegetarian options so every attendee will have plenty to eat. Stop by the Sprout mobile for a variety of plant-based options.
You can purchase tickets here. Free for children 12 and under.
