Gingerbread Exhibit Happening Around Town

Get in the holiday spirit and check out these creative creations.

Holiday cheer is officially in the air and on display around town. The Old Wilson Schoolhouse Community Center is hosting a gingerbread house exhibit scattered around Wilson and Teton Village. This year marks the first annual exhibit, competition and scavenger hunt organized by the organization.

This year 13 businesses, including Basecamp, the Aspens Market and the Mangy Moose, designed and created their own gingerbread structures. From now until Dec. 11, members of the public can view the displays and vote for their favorite online. Each exhibit includes one “clue word,” and entering five clues on the online portal earns one entry to a raffle. The grand prizes for the raffle are four $100 Visa gift cards as well as other swag.

The local businesses had fun designing, building and decorating their winter wonderland landscapes. Marylou Berra, of the Aspens Market, said they modeled their display after the new frozen custard shack that they opened this past summer, The Freezer. “We used a random gingerbread house kit and reconfigured it for a custom design. Other materials include homemade colored frostings, plant trimmings, sprinkles and cupcake toppers,” Berra said.

The Aspens Market crafted their gingerbread scene to look like their frozen custard stand, The Freezer, which opened this summer.

The Alpenhof Lodge in Teton Village created a powdered-sugar-dusted scene with a vintage toy van carrying a tiny Christmas tree strapped to the top. Basecamp in Wilson designed a miniature shop at the bottom of the mountains, with Santa getting ready to take a ski run. Take a trip around the west side of the valley with friends or family and check out all 13 winter holiday scenes. Don’t forget to vote on your favorite and collect scavenger hunt clues for a chance at the raffle prizes.

For a list of participating businesses, a map of the exhibits and information about the event details, visit the website. The deadline for voting on your favorite gingerbread house and for submitting scavenger hunt clues is December 10th at 5 p.m. The raffle will be drawn on December 11th at 3 p.m.
