The guest ranch in Dubois offers cabins, dining and adventures.
Nestled in a quiet corner of Dubois, Wyo., a retreat to 3 Spear Ranch offers the charming feel and adventurous spirit of the Wild West, and a romantic setting with views of the Wind River and Absaroka Mountains.
The 1,200-acre ranch has been around for over 100 years, but it wasn’t until 2021 that new ownership turned the property into a guest ranch, opening it to the public for the very first time. Sascha and Creed Garnick bought the property in 2018, which was previously a private retreat for the Albright family.
There are eight, one-bedroom guest cabins on the property, which regularly hosts about 10 to 18 people. Dubois is about 90 minutes from Jackson, on the east side of Togwotee Pass where the snowline ends and red rock mesas begin. “You can be driving past eight-foot high snow banks on Togwotee, then horseback riding on bareground over here,” says General Manager Chandler Minton. “It’s pretty incredible.”
The restaurant is open to both guests and the public, so folks who don’t want to stay on site but are looking for a memorable meal can make a reservation Thursday through Saturday nights (Thursday nights are a weekly sushi night that Minton says has become quite popular.)

A natural warm spring is just outside the main building, which is open year round and a picturesque place for a therapeutic soak. 3 Spear has a remote feel, but the ranch is conveniently located just two miles outside of downtown Dubois so you can get to town in less than 10 minutes by car. “It’s a small, intimate experience,” Minton says. “Whether you’re looking to grab a good book, sit on the porch and enjoy the sunshine, or explore the property and the trails beyond it, it can feel like you have the place to yourself.”
3 Spear is an excellent escape for those seeking dry trails midwinter, but it can also serve as a homebase for longer trips to the area in the summer and winter. “Getting to Yellowstone is equidistant from here as it is from downtown Jackson, so you can base here and do it all, or work it into a multi-leg itinerary.”
If you want to check out the ranch but don’t want to stay overnight, 3 Spear also offers single day excursions, with a pickup from Jackson, a two-hour private horseback ride, snacks and charcuterie from the restaurant, and a ride back to town.
In addition to horseback riding, you can take a wildlife safari, schedule an in-room massage, hike, snowmobile, the options are endless for year round adventures. Now through the rest of the winter, 3 Spear is offering 30% off room rates when paired with a restaurant reservation, for locals looking to escape for a night or two.
