Food is fuel, in both its simple and complex forms. And a day in the park is guaranteed to require a lot of it. Sandwiches have long been the go-to grab-and-go option for conveniently taking your food along on your adventures. There are many places in Jackson Hole to grab a meal that’s between bread, but there are a few that make the art of sandwich making a specialty…
Creekside classics
Creekside Market & Deli is a tried and true one-top-shop liquor store, market and deli. Their sandwiches are stacked with fresh ingredients and their sandwiches are always made to order. The Creekside chaos that insues on a busy summer day can be a little daunting of newcomers. Never fear, step up to the counter and grab one of their sandwich order forms to select your favorite sandwich fillers. If the list of options is too much for you, play it safe with one of their specialty sandwiches, like their meatball sub.
Dornan’s deli
Dornan’s, located at Moose Junction, won’t let you head into the park hungry. As much as we love their restaurant views, we love taking their deli items for a more up close and personal viewpoint in Grand Teton National Park. The Deli at Dornan’s, located in the trading post, has 15 different specialty sandwiches to choose from! From hummus sandwiches to smoked salmon, there’s something for everyone at this deli. Our recommendation? Number one: The Buckaroo, a sandwich with turkey, cranberries, Gouda cheese, lettuce and mayo.
Between bagels
Don’t get your fill of Pearl Street Bagels for breakfast? The solution: turn one of your favorite bagel varieties into a sandwich. It’s a build your own situation at this bagel counter. Select your meats, veggies and cheese, they’ll wrap it up and you can readily hit the road. That bagel fuel will definitely last you to the end of your hike!
River runners
Headed south toward a day on the Snake River? Swing into Jackson Hole Marketplace on the way, aka “South Park’s Favorite Market.” In addition to their sandwiches, you may opt for a house-made soup or hot lunch special. Classic offerings include egg salad or turkey club, but we advise you stay on top of their daily lunch specials (today, Friday, is Italian beef subs). They’ve made ordering even more convenient, partnering with ChowNow to offer online ordering.
Pass lappers
When you find yourself in Wilson, whether you’re headed for laps of Teton Pass on your mountain bike or destined for a drive over to Idaho, Rations at Basecamp has your grab-and-go game covered. Since its opening, Basecamp has completely elevated our notions surrounding what a gas station could be. Before you venture out, stash one of their fried chicken sandwiches in your pack.
