Better Than Takeout: Avant Delivery Offers Meal Prep and Delivery

Avant Delivery launched in 2020 to eliminate waste from grocery shopping and takeout orders in Jackson Hole. With an Avant membership, subscribers receive access to same-day grocery delivery and a rotating supply of reusable to-go containers, shopping totes, and produce bags, which Avant swaps out and cleans before returning to the system.

The company, launched by local professional skier Sam Schwartz, is now offering a meal prep delivery option, with ready-made meals prepared by Avant and delivered in reusable packaging. With a $39.99 per month subscription, members can order menu items a la carte, choosing either a fully prepped meal or one that requires about 15-20 minutes of prep in a similar style to Hello Fresh or Blue Apron services.

“The overall goal is to provide convenient, fresh food that supports our local producers, creates zero waste, and fills in the gaps when town is overrun and restaurants are too busy for locals to go out to eat.” A new menu is released each week, sourcing local ingredients from partners like Vertical Harvest Farms, Lockhart Cattle, and Sweet Hollow Farm. The menu always features a vegan meal, a salad, a chicken and rice meal, a rotating burrito bowl, and tons of other options depending on allergies and special diets.

Schwartz’s goal is to keep everything affordable. The price is slightly less expensive than going out to eat, but a little more expensive than having to go to the grocery store. Salads and desserts fall into the $8 range, while a more elaborate meal that includes steak or salmon is up to $18.

Avant delivers locally in Jackson on Mondays and in Victor on Tuesdays. By the fall, Schwartz is hoping to be able to expand to five days of deliveries instead of just one day, so customers can order meals day of.

We want to make local food more accessible in a sustainable manner. And to just make people’s lives easier. When I barely have enough time to fit everything into the day, I’m always thankful I have a healthy meal prepped and ready.
