There are many reasons to love October in the Tetons. Town gets quieter, the foliage starts to pop, wildlife is seemingly around every corner, and of course: Oktoberfest.
Get those steinholding arms ready, because Snake River Brewery’s annual Oktoberfest celebration is happening on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The event is an all-day celebration with music, games, costumes and seasonal beer served in traditional steins. The annual celebration (which has taken place for over 25 years), was put on hold for the past few years due to the pandemic, so the team is excited to finally bring it back.
“Although recent health concerns related to congregating in the middle of a pandemic have prevented us from holding an official Oktoberfest celebration for the last few years, SRB has offered a gathering spot for this holiday for most of its lifetime,” says Broc Seipp, Marketing and Events Coordinator at Snake River Brewing. “We are excited that daily life is somewhat returning to normal and we can hold this celebration again.”

Live German music will be playing all day, with beer hall-style games and an official steinholding competition, a traditional game where competitors hold a full stein of beer with proper form at arm’s length for the longest period of time.
The Brewpub will also be serving their seasonal Rolling Thunder Dortmunder beer, a German-style light lager released every year for Oktoberfest. Whether you’re there for the music, costumes, beer, or have been training for the steinholding competition all summer, Tuesday promises to be a good time.
“Oktoberfest is living history,” adds Seipp. “We brew traditional, true to style brews with a heavy German influence. It’s only right we give an ode to the German origins of this event and the beer we hold in such high esteem, and, of course, it’s fun for staff to dress up and listen to some polka.”
