Got wine on the mind? Us too!

Whether you’re stopping by Bin22 to pick up a few bottles on your way to a dinner party, or pulling up a seat for some tapas at the bar, the neighborhood wine shop boasts an impressive variety of bottles, the perfect opportunity to get creative and try something you may have never known you liked.

Neil Loomis, Fine Dining’s director of beverage, loves introducing people to new wines at Bin22. “It’s easy to resort to the varietals and regions you know better, but we have an amazing variety of wines from different producers and regions,” he says. “We have 20 open bottles at all times since we serve them by the glass, which is the perfect opportunity to discover a wine you hadn’t heard of.”

Loomis encourages customers to chat with the wine clerks and try out a few tastes to help guide their decisions.

“Stepping into that $20 to $30 range, that’s when we can represent all different kinds of styles really well and find some really great wines for you,” says Loomis.

Here are three of Loomis’s top bottles for $30 or less, along with a few notes from the beverage director himself.

Alexana Pinot Gris, $26

A ripe, rich pinot gris, Loomis says he doesn’t typically gravitate towards this style of wine but that the Alexana is an exception.  “This is a small production estate-grown project in Willamette Valley, Oregon,” says Loomis. “The wine has a round body with melon, citrus and fig.”

Bin22

Manoir du Carra, $30

Hailing from a region just south of Burgundy, Beaujolais is often compared to old world pinot noir, slightly fruitier and juicier and at a better price point. It’s made from the Gamay grape from the Fleurie Cru in Beaujolais, France. “A finesse-style wine with violets, red berry and cinnamon,” says Loomis.

Bin22

The Butcher Blaufrankisch, $27 (also available by the glass)

Loomis describes The Butcher as a celebration of spring, a medium-bodied red that’s great to pour when the days start to get longer. “The main red grape of Austria, this wine comes from the Burgenland. It is a very expressive medium-bodied wine, with notes of blueberry, plum and pepper.” Grab a bottle, or pull up a seat at the bar and enjoy it by the glass.

Have you joined the wine club? Bin22’s wine club offers shoppers the chance to score the “deal of the day” (22% off a select bottle every two weeks), as well as opportunities for wine tasting at the shop (which will hopefully be back on the table this summer).
