Jackson Drug Launches Homemade Ice Cream Pints to go

Name a better way to beat the mid summer heat than with a scoop of your favorite ice cream. Whether you want to dine-in and cool off with a milkshake, sundae, or float, or take-out a pint of your favorite flavor for later, Jackson Drug has got you covered.

Celebrating its second year in business on July 13, Jackson Drug recently launched the sale of their homemade ice cream to go. Patrick Gill, owner of Jackson Drug, spends hours each day making enough ice cream to keep up with the 500 to 600 scoops sold a day in-house, as well as filling a freezer at the front of the restaurant with to-go pints of huckleberry, vanilla bean, coffee, chocolate, chocolate chip and mint chip for the crowds walking around and picnicking in the hot summer sun.

Jackson Drug now serving a variety of their homemade ice cream flavors in pints to go.

Gill uses the same brand ice cream machine that was used when his great-grandfather, Bruce Porter, opened the first Jackson Drug in 1919. Local ingredients like Cowboy Coffee from just across the street, and dairy from Reeds Dairy in Idaho Falls, are used to create the rich, creamy, flavors of huckleberry, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, mint chip and vanilla chip. The huckleberry milkshake is the most popular ice cream item on the menu, with the Oreo and chocolate shakes coming in at a close second.

Keep your eyes open this offseason for more news on where to find the local ice cream for sale and follow @jacksondrug on Instagram for daily and weekly specials.

Food and Fitness come hand in hand for this Central New York native. Coaching fitness is a first passion, but exploring new restaurants, sampling seasonal dishes and tasting fresh new flavors is a very, very close second. I love food and sharing a good meal with friends can be a highlight to any day.
