Off-season is synonymous with travel season for most Jackson locals. Whether you’re flying home to visit family for Thanksgiving in the coming weeks or road tripping to sunnier locales with friends, now is the time to enjoy faraway places while the snow piles up for winter. There are plenty of snack options to stock in your carry-on or on your passenger seat, but take this opportunity to take a little piece of Jackson with you by choosing one of these local snack options. 
Salty
Featured on restaurant menus (like Snake River Brewing’s caramel corn bar bite) and in most local retail stores around town, many are familiar with Jackson’s local popcorn producer: Pop! From the Salted Cowboy Caramel to the Outlaw Cheddar, there’s a flavor for everyone’s popcorn taste preferences. The Campfire Kettle Corn is an easy, snackable classic.
Sweets
We could take any of Persephone’s pastries as a to-go snack, but they have a few items that are more readily packaged for travel. If you get a bag of their mini chocolate chip cookies, this snack may keep Jackson with you for a little longer, or you could be forced to share with a travel companion. If you haven’t tried one of their brown rice crispy treats with rainbow sprinkles, now’s definitely the time. As you approach the register, keep your eye out for more seasonal or holiday inspired travel items. If you have some extra time for snack perusal, stop into Mursell’s Sweet Shop. Located in the Gaslight Alley, this sweet shop hosts a unique collection of sweets and chocolates from around the world. Perhaps not locally made, but locally gathered.
Meats
Pack some protein into your snacking with Bovine & Swine’s snack sticks. These shelf-stable snacks can be kept at room temperature, so they’ll last for that drive across the country (if you can stand to wait that long to eat them). Easy to eat and travel, the snack sticks come in packages of two and two different flavors: regular and spicy jalapeno. If you prefer that traditional jerky texture, opt for Lockhart Cattle Co.’s beef jerky, sold conveniently next to the register at Creekside Market. This jerky is not only local, but contains 100 percent grass-fed beef and is uncured with no added hormones, nitrates or antibiotics.
Depending on your location around the valley, most of these snacks are supported and sold at local retailers. If you’re in Teton Village, check out Bodega while you’re filling up the gas tank or Mangy Moose Market & Cellars. On the West Bank, Aspens Market is overflowing with local producer’s items. If you’re coming from (or leaving via) the south end of Jackson, check out Jackson Hole Marketplace. Jackson Whole Grocer and Lucky’s Market will satisfy most of your snacking needs on the west side of town, or Pearl Street Market is a solid downtown option. For the procrastinators among us, Jedediah’s at the Airport is your last chance stop before you board a plane beneath the Tetons.
