It goes by many names, Bags, Cornhole, Baggo, but it is synonymous with one thing; summer. A barbecue in the backyard with beers in hand and a little bean bag toss is at the heart of many social gatherings this time of year. Bags has morphed from a college tailgate drinking game to a somewhat respected form of friendly competition for any occasion (there is even a competitive Cornhole league offered through Teton County Parks and Rec). So why not enjoy a little friendly game of bags when you are out on the town too? There are a few places that let you test out your yard game skills against friends and strangers, offering set ups to test you tossing ability.
Cuttys: With a great piece of grass located on the intersection of Broadway and HWY 22, your tossing skills can put put on display for all sorts of patrons and commuters alike. With three boards set up to use during lunch, dinner, or late night hours (I have seen people out there with head lamps) there are few better places to enjoy a slice and a beer while tossing some bags.
Q Roadhouse/Calico: The lawn that separates these two restaurants is perhaps one of the most pristine pieces of grass to enjoy a summers afternoon on. While many parents allow their kids to have free reign of this area while eating, a few Cornhole enthusiasts can often be seen staking out a territory of their own. With the Q and Calico opening at 5 p.m., it is a great spot to stop after work and enjoy a happy hour drink too.
Pinky G’s: This downtown locale might not be the first place you associate with yard games, but they do in fact have one of the only outdoor Cornhole set ups in the downtown. While most evenings the spot will be crowded with a family pizza eating crowd, stop in for one of their great lunch specials and enjoy a game in the shade.
Teton Village: Right across from The Handle Bar at the Four Seasons you can find a set or two of bags for your tossing enjoyment. located next to the Frisbee golf putting hole, gondola, and ropes course entrance, the set up is sometimes overlooked. Take advantage of grabbing a drink beforehand to take over from Bodega or The General Store. Don’t miss out on some amazing food from The Handle Bar along with views of the mountain and any potential competitors after your game either
Victor: There are a couple great places to get your toss on around Victor this summer as well. Wildlife Pizza and Brewery often has a set up outside and if your lucky, you might even find their shuffleboard table out there as well. Grand Teton Brewery has their fair share of yard games for your summertime enjoyment including Cornhole. Their tasting room is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m to 9 p.m. and noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays and is a perfect spot to grab a cold brew while enjoying the afternoon sun
Looking to practice your skills? Building your own set up isn’t to hard either you just need a few power tools and a quick trip to the lumber yard. Check out this website to figure out how to construct a set up of your own.
