There are few things more comforting than curling up around a hot steamy bowl of soup. Luckily for us, just about every restaurant around Jackson offers a few varieties for customers to choose from over these winter months. While there are as any many different styles of soups as the restaurants that offer them, Dishing has compiled a list of some of our favorites to warm your soul through these cold months.

Persephone’s Coq Au Vin Stew: Coq au vin, which translates to “rooster in wine” is a classic dish that is hearty enough to satisfy a healthy appetite on a cold day. Red Bird chicken is braised in red wine with mushrooms, barely, and carrot, all topped with confit chicken thigh. That is sure to warm the soul.

Lotus Cafe Beef Pho: If you’re looking for soup with your veggies, Lotus’s pho is the way to go. Piled high with all the accoutrements, this soup eats like a meal and is sure to satisfy even the biggest of appetites.

Whole Grocer Mamma Leone

Mamma Leone’s soup is the top seller at Jackson Whole Grocer.

Jackson Whole Grocer Soup: Quality and convenience make the Jackson Whole Grocer’s soup bar worth bellying up to. While their options rotate daily, you can be sure to find some traditional staples such as Mama Leone’s, tomato bisque, or their chili cookout winning staple. Their soups are all made with dietary restrictions in mind, any that contain dairy, meat, gluten or other allergens are clearly labeled.

The Kitchen’s Pho Bo: One of the staples of Southeast Asian cuisines, pho is a great broth-heavy option. Served with pickled vegetables, fresh herbs, thinly sliced beef and Vermicelli noodles, it is a tasty option on cool evenings.

Q Roadhouse Chowder

The chowder at Q Roadhouse is as authentic as it comes this side of the Mississippi.

Q Roadhouse- Roger’s famous Clam Chowder: If you’re looking for a little taste of the East Coast out West, this is probably your best bet. The Q Roadhouse’s New England Style chowder doesn’t disappoint, served in a cup or entree size bowl.

cafe-genevieve-ramen-noodle-bowl

Cafe Genevieve’s You won’t find this local’s favorite pork ramen under the soup section of the menu. This main course is loaded with pork goodness from the crispy belly, to the braised shoulder and savory broth. There are, of course, other highlights such as house-pickled carrots, scallions and a poached egg to round out this satisfying meal.

Pearl St Bagels: I am leaving out any one specific soup from PSB because they are all delicious, and they rotate daily. Instead of getting your heart set on one, get it set on all of them. Today is actually the first day of the season Pearl Street Bagels will be offering soup, and they are kicking off the season with a chicken, artichoke and rice offering. Check out their weekly schedule here so you can plan ahead.

The Famous French Onion Soup from Sidewinders

The Famous French Onion Soup from Sidewinders

Sidewinder’s French Onion Soup: There is a reason this was featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. The caramelized onions mix with a rich broth for an amazingly satisfying wintertime soup. Don’t forget, the whole thing is topped with a thick slice of bread and smothered with melted cheese to convert even the most staunch of the anti-soup crowd.

Noodle Kitchen’s Dan Dan Noodles: The Noodle Kitchen is definetly not lacking when it comes to soup and bowl options, all of which are delicious and completely customizable. My personal favorite has to be the dan dan noodles. The bowl is loaded with vegetables served over ramen noodles with a lightly sweet and spicy broth, perfect for slurping.

brewpupchili-5

Snake River Brew Pub Wyo Bison and Beef Chili: The chili from SRB uses locally soured beef from Mead Ranch and Wyoming bison that has been slow cooked with tomatoes and spicy chilies to make this delicious offering. It no wonder they have won the Jackson Chili Cookoff three times.

Hatch’s Tortilla Soup: I have heard many times about the healing power of tortilla soup (cures the common cold, gets rid of hangovers), and every time I have a bowl I can see why it gets that reputation. The comforting chicken broth is topped with onions, cilantro, lime and crispy tortilla strips, served during both lunch and dinner.

silverdollarchowder-3

Silver Dollar Grill Corn Chowder: More aptly referred to as The Wort’s Famous Corn Chowder, this longtime Jackson favorite is always on the menu. The creamy corn chowder is topped with cheddar, bacon, and crostini, served in a cup or bowl. What’s better? We’ve got the recipe here.

The Handle Bar Elk and Red Bean Chili: When you are cruising down the resort, few things hit the spot better than chili. Stop by the Handle Bar this winter to take advantage of their rendition of this classic hearty soup with some gourmet flair.

Trio's BLT soup

Trio’s BLT soup

Trio’s BLT Soup: This staple of Trio’s menu has stuck around for a good reason. Homemade tomato soup is topped with arugula pesto, bacon lardons, and garlic croutons. Try a bowl before your mains next time you stop by.

Haydens Post: Although more of a soup and sandwich combo, tomato soup with grilled cheese can not be thought of separately. The thick brioche and melted cheddar cheese go great with the slightly smoky and spicy tomato soup from Haydens Post.

King Sushi Pork Ramen: Artfully prepared with quality ingredients, you almost feel like you could be in Japan while slurping your ramen in the little log cabin on King Street. Kurobota pork shoulder and belly highlight the delicious noodles and broth, all topped with a soft poached egg.

Chris Hogberg

Food and cooking has been a great travel buddy for Chris, finally taking root in Jackson. Originally from Seattle, Chris enjoys rainy walks to get coffee, cold dark beers, and cozying up in a warm restaurant kitchen. He has a background in marketing but has spent most of his days working in fine dining behind the line. Now you can find him selling hummus, perusing the farmers markets, or mountain biking behind his Aussie Shephard, Zephyr.
