Plan the Perfect Mexican Getaway

Now that the holiday rush is over, it might be time to find something else to look forward to. If you are craving something warmer, after these cold winter months, or just need a break from it, then its time to head to Mexico.

We go to Mexico more often than any other warm destination because it is easy to get to (you can literally be on the beach with a beer in your hand from Jackson by 3 p.m.). It is warm, but not equator-hot, and relatively inexpensive. And, did I mention the food? Two dollar tacos rule, and $4 six-packs from the local markets can stretch your budget for fancier afternoon cocktails and evening farm dinners.

Since I just got back, not too long ago, I thought I would share the latest and greatest spots we found.

Rancho Pescadero

rancho pescadero

I can’t say enough great things about this lovely spot on the beach near the artsy small town of Todos Santos. This was our second visit to the small hotel, and dare I say, it won’t be our last.

Most rooms have an incredible ocean view, where you will see whales, herds of flying bat ray, and the most incredible sunsets. Since there are no kids allowed, you can rest and relax by the pools or on the beds on the beach. Fish, borrow the bikes to hit a taco stand in town or surf on a couple of the nearby breaks.

rancho pescaderoCoffee, fruit and a daily pastry are brought to your room every morning to enjoy on your terrace, and don’t miss the daily yoga, which is super relaxing and held in an open air palapa. And if you decide to do almost nothing, nobody will judge. But I do suggest organizing dinner on the beach. We had a group traveling with us, and the beachside feast was beyond a blast.

Flora Farms

Fans of fresh food and the farm-to-table concepts will be blown away by this incredible enclave near San Jose. Acres at the farm grow fresh fruits and vegetables, raise chickens, age charcuterie, and even, brew beer.

You could easily spend the day walking around the property. Shop for produce at the market, grab an ice cream from a stand made from ripe mangos grown on property. The bar utilizes fresh hibiscus grown right next to it to make beautiful drinks.

Flora FarmsIf you are lucky enough to have snagged a reservation, your dining experience will surprise and delight you. You won’t find typical tacos but you will find roasted chicken, salads, homemade burrata and pizzas.

Flora FarmsAfter spending the day here, it will be tough to move on. But once you arrive at our next destination, you have more to look forward to.

The Cape

Cabo’s newest darling, The Cape, offers all ocean-front rooms with a serious view. A small, but private beach, leaves you feeling secluded in just the right way. Get out, if you must, but I suggest you sip some cocktails poolside at the infinity pool and watch the stunning sun go down.

The Cape

After a siesta on your private deck, the rooftop bar awaits. Snack on sashimi and get a glass of premium bubbly while you sit back and listen to the nightly entertainment. The service everywhere in the hotel is exceptional, friendly and unassuming.

The Cape

If you have managed to save room for dinner, the hotel’s signature restaurant, Manta, offers an elevated experience. Dine outdoors and nosh on Mexican with a twist (think tamarind with your fried chicken).
