Piste Provides Fun Ending to a Hike

While news of Jackson Hole Mountain Resorts’s Couloir closing was devastating, to soften the blow to us die-hard fans of Wes Hamilton’s upscale cuisine, Piste has summer-ized its dishes and is open every night for dinner starting at 4:30. The locally-sourced menu offers myriad fresh, innovative shared plates as starters, alongside more hearty dishes like fresh fish or a burger if you are looking for a full meal.

A friend at the resort invited us on a dining adventure to try to the new menu with her. First, we rode the tram up, then hiked the scenic 2.5 mile trail down to Piste for dinner. Easy enough, except for a few short patches of snow crossings at the top. The hike took about an hour, and even when you have seen it so many times, the view never gets old as you head down. We passed a marmot along the way too!

Then it was time to try the new drink selection (delicious!) and summer dishes. The menu sounded so good we wanted to try it all, but opted to stop ourselves at about half the dishes. A few stand outs included King crab hushpuppies, white prawn ceviche (pictured below) and fresh buratta on a Wyomato gazpacho.

Everything was delicious, and we were excited to see Hamilton’s influence shining through the seasonal selections. Though the gondola ride up is free from 4:30 p.m. on, the tram ride/hike down combination is something I will do again when family visits later this month. Reservations for the open-air but inside Piste tables for the full menu are recommended, but the deck serves a few snack options as well, and is still first-come-first-serve for the outdoor seating.
