It tastes just as good as it sounds. The smoky Mezcal complements the rich chocolate to create a wonderful warm cocktail perfect for a cold night. Benji Perkins from Haydens Post created the recipe, and if you don’t feel like whipping one up yourself, they will be happy to do it for you. They have a perfect little spot to enjoy it to next to their big fire after a long day of skiing.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup masa
- 2 cups water
- 5 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoons chipotle powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 6 ounces Mexican chocolate chopped
- 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate chips
- 8 ounces mezcal
Instructions
- Mix 1/2 cup of water with masa and mix into paste, set aside.
- Combine milk, cream, sugar, rest of the water, chipotle powder, vanilla, and cinnamon together in a large pot and bring to a boil.
- Take off heat and add both chocolates, let them melt.
- Add masa paste and return to medium heat while stirring until mixture thickens, about 5 minutes
- Take off heat and stir in mezcal.
- Serve with whipped cream and powdered cinnamon. Makes 8 cups
