Food for the Fourth

Jump to recipe

It’s time to pull out your red, white, and blue and get ready for a fun filled weekend of fireworks, American flags, and plenty of food. Whether you are heading to a friend’s cookout or having a family picnic while watching the fireworks, we have some great recipes for you to try. We asked a few of our friends around town for some of their favorite Fourth of July recipes and hope you enjoy them as much as they do.

4th-of-july-foodA quick and easy snack to bring to a fireworks picnic is flag-fruit skewers. Pick up some fresh blueberries, strawberries, and banana from Jackson Whole Grocer or Lucky’s and skewer the fruit. I like to alternate the different fruit not only for taste but because it looks really pretty.

Ashley Ost, owner of Everything But The Dress, shared with us her favorite Key Lime pie recipe. This cool and refreshing dessert would be perfect to bring to a friend’s cookout. See below for her recipe.

bobqueAnother favorite of mine is barbecue chicken. It’s perfect for a cookout or to pack and go.  Did you know that you can now purchase Bo-B-Q’s famous barbecue sauce at the People’s Market? I did this last week and marinated my chicken in their sauce first. Then after grilling it I poured some more sauce over the chicken for extra flavor. It worked great in a barbecue chicken sandwich and on a salad.

Grace, owner of Grace Spa, has a favorite steak sandwich for her Fourth of July festivities. This is a great meal for cookouts or picnics!

Enjoy the Fourth of July this year and stay posted for our Fourth of July Round Up on Thursday to find out about everything going on around town this weekend.

Mollie Flaherty

Mollie is a native Cape Codder who learned at an early age how to put a lobster to sleep, harvest cranberries, and dig for clams. After high school she followed her sense of adventure out west to the University of Wyoming where she graduated with marketing and communication degrees. She found herself making roots in Jackson, her fiance’s hometown, and using her sales skills combined with her love of anything delicious to join the Dishing sales team. She loves baking from scratch, large glasses of red wine, and hiking with her heeler, Newton. She’ll try anything, but remains a stuck up Cape Codder when it comes to seafood. If she didn’t catch it or see it come off the boat, don’t even try tempting her.
