SCHOOL OUTREACH

Savion returns to continue to reach populations that might not venture into our studio space or the theater, visiting Jackson Hole Middle School music classrooms to explore rhythm and musicality. During two visits in May and October of 2018, Savion visited the Senior Center of JH, offered a lecture demonstration to the community and shared outreach at Jackson Hole Middle and High Schools.

MORE ABOUT SAVION

Savion “could arguably be the best tap dancer that ever lived. He’s a genius.” -Gregory Hines

While ALL FuNKD’ UP marks the newest innovative expression from Savion, he celebrates his 36th year as a performing artist in show business. You may know him from his career starts as The Tap Dance Kid on Broadway and as a longtime tap dancer on Sesame Street. You may also know him for his later unprecedented choreography from Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk that garnered him a Tony Award for Best Choreography. His other credits include Black & Blue, Jelly’s Last Jam, the movie Tap with Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis, Jr., Spike Lee’s Bamboozled and Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2 (choreographed by Savion himself!), and the Broadway musical Shuffle Along.

Savion was privileged to dance with and be guided by the great Bunny Briggs, Buster Brown, Lon Chaney, Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jimmy Slyde and Diane Walker. Today, he carries on the legacy of these pioneering hoofers and can often be found dancing on stages across the world with jazz musicians like Jack DeJohnette, Roy Haynes and McCoy Tyner.
