End of the Season at Snow King Mountain

If the squeal of snowmobiles was any indication, the World Championship Hill Climb has come to town, and with it, the conclusion of the ski season at Snow King Mountain. Here are some ways to participate in the weekend’s festivities.hill climb

Action views

With the disappearance of the Lift from the close-proximity refreshment scene, this year presents some alternatives for your food and drink consumption. In its first winter of operation, StillWest Brewery & Grill would appear to be the obvious choice for ample views of the hill from their second story patio. A little ways away from the hustle and bustle, the upstairs of Snake River Brewing affords some more distant views of the action (with a little less noise). They’ve got the Freedom Pilsner newly on tap just for the occasion. Adjacent to the hill, pop into Hayden’s Post, where happy hour runs from 3-6 p.m. with $4 draft beers, $2 PBRs, $5 well cocktails and $4 glasses of house wine.

Activities

The clock is ticking toward the end of winter activities at Snow King. King Tubes and ski school have already come to a close for the winter. However, you have until Sunday to take your all mountain skis for a few more Snow King laps, add some tallies to your uphill challenge totals or jump on the Cowboy Coaster. For this weekend, they’re offering a few specials offers on these activities. Purchase a $30 one hour Cowboy Coaster pass or $20 for scenic chairlift rides. For $60, you can get unlimited scenic rides over the course of the weekend. Otherwise, for $50, gets you two scenic rides and two Cowboy Coaster rides, valid all weekend.coaster

Celebrate

Local band, Sneaky Pete and the Secret Weapons, recently announced they’d be doing two free shows this weekend at the Silver Dollar Bar & Grill. Put on your dancing shoes and boogie from 7:30-11 p.m. Friday or Saturday night. Hayden’s Post is celebrating the end of the season a little later- March 30 to be exact. They’ll be opening up the deck and previewing their summer cocktail menu for the occasion. These craft cocktails, normally $12, will be just $8 for the end of season ski party. Enjoy DJ tunes from 8-11 p.m. and enter the raffle for the chance to win a pair of skis and local gift baskets.

Sam Simma

Raised in the land of casseroles and deep fried cheese curds, Sam Simma left rural Wisconsin for the mountains of Wyoming in summer 2012. Her appetite for adventure is the only thing that rivals her passion for food. She has always used writing to document and critique her travel and dining experiences. Her warmest memories among family and friends have been associated with the food that was at the center of the occasion. From staging cooking shows with siblings to perfecting turtle brownies with her dad, today Sam enjoys connecting people over food by hosting cookie decorating parties, wine pairing nights, and Midwest-inspired potlucks. A dessert fanatic, she has come to impress friends and family with key lime pies, Oreo bon bons, and Snickers ice cream cakes that are far simpler than they could ever imagine. Shhh! Don’t tell.
