Eating Out with Dietary Restrictions

Eating out with a dietary restriction can be extremely difficult. There is nothing worse than having to spend time dissecting the menu for possible options that fit your specific diet. Luckily, for those in Jackson, there are a ton of restaurants around town that will work with your dietary restrictions. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or dairy-free, a delicious meal can be found at numerous restaurants in the valley. To make it easy, I’ve compiled some of my favorite meals and restaurants that comply with the most common food allergies and restrictions.

Cultivate Café

This new restaurant has quickly become one of my go-to spots in town. Pretty much everything on the menu is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and absolutely delicious! My personal favorite item on the menu is the chick’n waffles, made with fried jackfruit, a gluten-free waffle, vegan butter and maple syrup. Looking for something on the lighter side? Try one of their made-to-order smoothies with house made nut milk! You really can’t go wrong at this place.

For those with dietary restrictions, you’ll face few limitations on the menu at Cultivate Cafe.

Gather

Located just off the town square, this restaurant features creative American cuisine with an easy-to-read menu, featuring tons of gluten-free options. Give your taste buds a treat and start with the crispy Brussels. For vegans, Gather offers a delicious noodle bowl with mushroom miso, kimchi, roasted veggies and chili garlic oil. This option can also be made gluten-free!

Healthy Being Juicery

If you are looking for a delicious gluten-free or vegan dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth, look no further! Healthy Being Juicery is known for their delicious cold-pressed juices, but is just as famous for their cheesecakes. Stop in for their daily assortment of desserts, which changes daily. They also offer delicious breakfast and lunch items, such as avocado toast on house-made gluten-free bread, and a falafel bowl, which is my personal favorite. Everyone here is super understanding of food restrictions and will do their best to make your meal perfect and delicious!

SUDA Izakaya

Have a dairy allergy? This is the restaurant for you. No dairy is used in the restaurant, except for an addition of Parmesan cheese on one salad. This is incredibly rare for a restaurant, where most items are usually dowsed in butter or cream. Luckily, those with dairy restrictions have full range of the menu and can feel safe about whatever they order. There are also many vegetarian options such as the vegan soba noodles or tempura vegetables. Also, the space is absolutely stunning!

Phoenix and the Dragon

Those with dietary restrictions, rejoice! Almost everything on this menu is gluten-free and dairy-free, with many options even being vegan! The restaurant is bright and airy, and a perfect place to spend a warm summer evening. Cool off with fresh summer rolls, poke bowls and finish with creamy vanilla (lactose free!) soft serve.

FIGS

Tucked in the lobby of Hotel Jackson, this Mediterranean masterpiece provides a luxurious and delicious getaway for those with food restrictions. The menu is extremely easy to read and filled with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. No need to ask your server what you can have, it is clearly organized for you! Start with some traditional favorites, such as vegetarian grape leaves or baba ghanoush, and finish with the halloumi salad, filled with arugula, tomato cucumber and a walnut pomegranate syrup.

I hope this guide helps in your quest to find foods around town that are delicious and also nourishing for your body! In addition to these options, there are many other restaurants which provide excellent options for those with food allergies or restrictions. Always feel free to call ahead and see what they can offer!
