Dishing Fitness Series: Revolution Indoor Cycling

We eat a lot working for dishing. While we try to eat healthy as much as possible, indulgence in delicious treats is inevitable. The dishing team makes sure to get outdoors as much as we can and to also take care of our fitness and health. After a night of indulgence in Palm Springs in December, the team decided we needed to do a fun work out to burn off everything we enjoyed the night before. While we would show you the hilarious work out video that we made, we decided that a guide to some of our favorite fitness spots around Jackson would serve our readers better. This is the first post of a series of fitness related blogs that we will be rolling out in the next few months.
rowRevolution Indoor Cycling is one of Jackson’s hot spots for indoor cycling and rowing classes. Owner Julie Guttormson opened the doors four years ago and has been helping Jackson stay fit and healthy with her exciting workouts. Classes come in all shapes and sizes and are meant to be “fitness for the masses” classes.

There are rowing specific classes including INDO-ROW®, which works nine major muscle groups and 84 percent of your muscle mass with hardly any impact, and a row/pilates class that combines 45 minutes of a classic INDO-ROW® class finished off with a pilates mat.

For the cyclist there are a number of classes to choose from. Some of the favorites include endurance ride, classic ride, a ride/release, and a ride/yoga class. Pimp My Ride is a great class for those who want to sweat it out instead of drink it down on a Friday night. This class features a $5 happy hour ride and is full of surprises. There might be a theme, DJ, or sweet giveaways.

rideAnother fun class to take at Revolution is shockwave. Shockwave has been named “the most efficient total-body workout in the world” and is cross-training at its finest. The class is a circuit challenge that utilizes a specially designed WaterRower machine as well as functional strength and sculpting stations. There is a fun camaraderie in this class and the friendly competition pushes you to your extreme.

A great event happening in a month at Revolution is Rock the Ride, Benefiting Stroke and Cardiac Patients. Grab some friends, raise some money, and help support the St. John’s Hospital Foundation. There will be a maximum of 20 teams at the event of up to four people per team. The team will have one bike and must ride for a total of four hours and can split up the time anyway they would like. The event will take place at 8:30 a.m. March 13. Rock the Ride encourages all skills and abilities to participate because everyone helps make a difference. The team must raise a minimum of $500 in order to participate, and you can continue to fundraise until the end of the ride. Prizes will be awarded to the teams with the highest mileage, highest fundraising total, most spirit, best dressed, and more. Revolution Indoor Cycling prides itself on offering classes for the masses, an opportunity for all ages and fitness levels to thrive. It is with this same principle “Rock The Ride” was born. Stroke and cardiac issues can happen at any age. Through creating an event team, sponsorship and simple donation, your support will help patients blindsided by the cost of this experience and potential recovery.

Mollie Flaherty

Mollie is a native Cape Codder who learned at an early age how to put a lobster to sleep, harvest cranberries, and dig for clams. After high school she followed her sense of adventure out west to the University of Wyoming where she graduated with marketing and communication degrees. She found herself making roots in Jackson, her fiance’s hometown, and using her sales skills combined with her love of anything delicious to join the Dishing sales team. She loves baking from scratch, large glasses of red wine, and hiking with her heeler, Newton. She’ll try anything, but remains a stuck up Cape Codder when it comes to seafood. If she didn’t catch it or see it come off the boat, don’t even try tempting her.
