Cinco De Mayo Fiestas

Drinks from Hatch

May is finally upon us, not that you would be able to tell by the recent snow accumulation, but it is. The beginning of the month also marks Cinco de Mayo, a celebration of a Mexican military victory over France 150 years ago. Not that this plays much part in shaping how we celebrate the adopted holiday these days, but it could be a fun fact to drop into conversation or help you answer that trivia question that no one knows. While May 5 is by no doubt in the heart of the offseason, there are plenty of places that are not only open, but putting on special deals for Friday’s holiday. We have compiled a list of your best options for enjoying the festivities.

Your first order of business should be stopping by the Jackson Whole Grocer to take advantage of their Guac-Off going on from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Their produce manager and culinary manager will be facing off to see who can make the best guacamole. You get to sample them both and cast your vote for the winner. Check out their website Wednesday for some great sale items that will spice up your party as well. If you are planning a fiesta of your own, you should probably make sure you are well stocked up on tequila and Mexican beers. For those of you that are budget conscious, TLS has their storewide customer appreciation sale going on from today through Wednesday. Take advantage of great deals and chances to win a variety of prizes through their daily raffle.

Blender Bike at Hatch

If you are looking for someone else to host the party on Friday, you have quite a few good options to choose from. Hatch is making sure you do a little work for your drinks. They are brining out a blender bike where your pedaling powers a blender on the back of the bike. Enjoy your well earned drink along with their daily happy hour specials and live music on the deck, depending on the weather. Merry Piglets has always been a staple for Mexican food in Jackson. This Cinco de Mayo, stop in to take advantage of 2 for 1 chicken or beef fajitas and 2 for 1 house margaritas from 5 to 7 p.m. If you are fancying beer instead of a margarita, both the Q Roadhouse and Snake River Brewing are great spots to find yourself this Friday. They will both be offering food and drink specials with south of the border flavors, stay tuned to their Facebook pages over the next couple days to see whats on the menu.

Bartenders Margarita from The Silver Dollar Bar

If you are looking for some after hours fun complete with music and drinks, The Silver Dollar Bar will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo party with music from The Boondocks. You can also enjoy $6 margaritas all night long in the bar. On May 6th, The Rose will be throwing a Seis de Mayo Latin dance party. The show starts at 7:30 and goes until late, a perfect way to end a fun filled week of festivities.

Chris Hogberg

Food and cooking has been a great travel buddy for Chris, finally taking root in Jackson. Originally from Seattle, Chris enjoys rainy walks to get coffee, cold dark beers, and cozying up in a warm restaurant kitchen. He has a background in marketing but has spent most of his days working in fine dining behind the line. Now you can find him selling hummus, perusing the farmers markets, or mountain biking behind his Aussie Shephard, Zephyr.
