JH Marketplace: One Stop Shop

Early this year, Liquor Down South, perhaps known as your South Park sloshie stop, got a facelift. The gas pumps were removed, new floors were installed inside, and the sign beside the highway leading into the Snake River Canyon changed to read, Jackson Hole Marketplace. This space, and this business, has evolved into a multi-faceted community resource, providing a platform for the products of regional artists, producers and manufacturers to reach local and nationwide consumers. Jackson Hole Marketplace, both in its online store and South Park Market location, promotes local entrepreneurs in the brands it showcases. The South Park Market has become a little gem south of town that is a specialty grocer, deli, and liquor, beer, and wine shop. In one stop you’ll find local craft beer, handcrafted jewelry, gifts, and gourmet food items. Every day, a selection of house-made breakfast, sandwiches, soups, salads and dessert items are available for purchase. Breakfast options include burritos and sandwiches. Lunch sandwiches vary, from pulled pork to chicken pesto. Two soup varieties are available daily.

Among its local vendors, Jackson Hole Marketplace displays a whole rack devoted to Jackson Hole Winery varieties in its wine shop. On another wall, there are still six flavors of refreshing sloshies churning in their machines. It may be cold outside, but how often do you get the chance to try an eggnog flavored sloshie? For larger orders and sandwich platters, call South Park Market just 48 hours in advance. Fridays are the day to stop into this location, for the Free Friday Tastings. From 4 to 6 p.m. every Friday, these tastings feature new and unique wines, spirits, and/or locally produced snacks.

This Friday’s tasting is extra special. From 4 to 6 p.m. is Jackson Hole Marketplace’s annual holiday party. Sam Simma

Raised in the land of casseroles and deep fried cheese curds, Sam Simma left rural Wisconsin for the mountains of Wyoming in summer 2012. Her appetite for adventure is the only thing that rivals her passion for food. She has always used writing to document and critique her travel and dining experiences. Her warmest memories among family and friends have been associated with the food that was at the center of the occasion. From staging cooking shows with siblings to perfecting turtle brownies with her dad, today Sam enjoys connecting people over food by hosting cookie decorating parties, wine pairing nights, and Midwest-inspired potlucks. A dessert fanatic, she has come to impress friends and family with key lime pies, Oreo bon bons, and Snickers ice cream cakes that are far simpler than they could ever imagine. Shhh! Don’t tell.
