5 Places that make Dietary Restrictions Easy and Delicious

Being a lady (or dude) who lunches can be tough when you are dealing with dietary restrictions. Here are a few of our favorite choices for when you’re in a morning rush and forget to pack a lunch (try making it a habit to keep a meal replacement like this bariatric soup in your bag for when you’re in a pinch – most good restaurants won’t mind preparing it for you if they don’t offer anything that you can eat). These choices are also useful so that you don’t have to be the awkward friend who won’t eat anything off the menu. They don’t need any modifications as they cater to specific dietary restrictions and can be enjoyed as is.

Healthy Being Nut Milk

Dairy-Free: Nut milk tonic and Argentinian toast with cashew cheese from Healthy Being Juicery

Healthy Being Cafe & Juicery is an excellent choice for dietary restrictions in general (their entire menu is vegetarian, and their gluten-free bread is made in-house) but we particularly dig their specialty dairy-free items. The milk, made from almonds or cashews, is smooth, creamy and flavorful. Try it in the turmeric tonic made with almond milk, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamon, Himalayan salt, and dates. The cashew cheese, spread with chimichurri sauce and microgreens on regular or gluten-free toast, really fills a craving for dairy while keeping your belly happy, too. In a hurry? Grab a blended dairy-free smoothie to sip at your desk.

Gluten-Free: Barbecue pizza from Hand Fire Pizza

Hand Fire Pizza is a surprising allergy and health food haven– there are no peanuts, tree nuts, fish, or shellfish processed in the facility at all. They offer vegan pizza, vegan dairy-free cheese, and our favorite, gluten-free pizza crust. Not all gluten-free crusts are created equal, and a bad gluten-free crust can taste more like a pizza box than a pizza. Hand Fire Pizza nailed it, though, and their crust is a delicious flatbread that will help satisfy a pizza craving– try it with any pizza on their menu, but we particularly love the Mo Bettah’ BBQ with slow-roasted pork shoulder, handmade (and gluten-free) barbecue sauce, jalapeños, and cilantro. For those of you with Celiac disease, do be aware that flour is processed quite a bit in Hand Fire’s kitchen, but they take extra precautions to make sure you can enjoy their pizza safely. If you let your server know you are Celiac, the cooks will change gloves, cook your gluten-free crust on a new and separate pan, and add the toppings in the back straight from the refrigerators so there is less chance of them coming in contact with any wheat products. Paul, the head chef, is vegan himself and really cares about accommodating all kinds of dietary restrictions.

Vegan: Veggie curry from from Teton Tiger

Indian food is traditionally heavily vegetarian, so it’s no surprise that Indian inspired Teton Tiger is home to one of our favorite vegan dishes in town. The vegan makhanwala is a traditional curry dish made with delhi style curry in a spiced tomato and coconut milk base with plentiful veggies like cauliflower, potato, carrots, peas, and butternut squash. Don’t miss sides like house made kimchi, garlic naan, and wok-seared broccoli. Most of their curries are also gluten free, and many of both their noodle and curry dishes can be made vegetarian, substituting meat for paneer, a delicious and traditional Indian cheese.

Lotus Salad

Whole 30/Keto Diet Friendly: Arugula and almond salad with bulletproof coffee from Lotus

If you’re trying out the Whole 30 or are in the early stages of taking shark tank keto diet pills, for example, to reset your system or make healthy lifestyle changes, then you already know it can be incredibly difficult to eat out without customizing your order to infinity. We love that the arugula and almond salad from Lotus is already free from grains and dairy, safe even for the strict Whole 30 diet. Salad dressings can be tricky since most dressings served in restaurants have added sugar, but the dressing on this salad is made with lean green cold-pressed juice (no sugar added) and olive oil, so it’s friendly for when you’re eliminating added sugar. It’s important to make sure you’re getting enough slow burning fats when on these diets. Although the Whole 30 diet recommends cutting out dairy, ghee or clarified butter is allowed. If you are sticking to this diet religiously then you might like to read some of these Ketogenic Supplement Reviews. It just so happens that our favorite mid day pick me up, Lotus’s bulletproof coffee, is made by blending coffee with ghee, giving it a smooth creamy flavor that is way better than any sugary creamer.

Still Have a Sweet Tooth?

Craving something sweet doesn’t have to mean sacrificing whole, healthy ingredients. Haagen Dazs just rolled out the first of their two non-dairy ice cream flavors, the decadent chocolate salted fudge truffle. This blend of rich Belgian chocolate with swirls of salted fudge and chunks of fudge truffles is not only dairy free, it is also gluten free and vegan. The Copper Bar is another great option if you’re craving sweets but following the Keto diet, since their seasonal gelato flavors have a low glycemic index and no added sugar. For baked goods, check out Healthy Being and Lotus Cafe– both spots have a delicious daily selection of gluten free, vegan, dairy free, paleo, raw, and natural treats.
